Heated seat repair

Featured Replies

The drivers side heated seat hasn't worked for a while and I hadn't bothered with it over summer as it didn't seem worth the hassle. I had done quite a bit of fault finding using old posts on here. Checked the switch, checked the feed to the seat using a multi meter and it showed there was power going to the seat.

Today I decided to remove the seat and get in amongst it. After unplugging the airbag and seat heating plugs the seat came out and I used the seat cover removal guide to get down to the heater element.

This is the seat section completely out of the seat, on inspection the wire element has fractured and has burnt out result being a dead heating element.

Stripped the wires and soldered them.

Covered the join in a few layers of insulation tape and tucked it back in to a pleat. Put it in the car uncovered with the rest of the seat and plugged it in to test. It got hot, so left it for a while to make sure there weren't any fires!! Took it out and put the cover on(hog rings suck ass btw) and then put the whole lot back in to the car.

I was lucky that the break was easy to fix and could be kept away from being sat on too much. Tested it a few times since and it seems to run very similarly to the passenger side so good news. Not a difficult job just awkward.

good work :)

good work

I find pliers and a screwdriver help to hold the hog thing in place, then widen it open with the driver.

then it will just rotate off with your pliers - and you can reuse it. Simples. But time consuming ! Do it while watching some telly

I've got the same problem. I cant seem to find the guide to remove the seat. Can some one post up a link. Cheers

To remove the seat you need a special splined bit.  There are four to remove, once out I tipped the whole seat back a bit which allows you to disconnect the heated seat and airbag plugs.  If you disconnect the battery first you shouldn't upset the airbag system.
