Rear fog lights flash when indicating

Featured Replies

Hello all,

My fabia has developed a problem with the rear lighting.

When indicating left, my rear fog light (right) also flashes and sends a warning light and sound to the dash. It also beeps when hazards are on. The only time it doesn't do it when the left indicator is on, is when I already have the fogs on. Indicating right causes no fault.

I can put up with it, but I think it may be dangerous if I continue to drive with this problem.

Has anyone had this problem, I have had a search on here and haven't found anything. Any ideas would be appreciated, im not very technical when it comes to cars, so if anyone can help me fix the problem, id be very grateful

Cheers

Darren

First thing to check, regardless of what you feel that you are seeing is, are the bulbs the correct type and/or are any of them fitted into the holders "incorrectly" - maybe compare side to side if you are not sure.

Also, you might need to take the clusters  or bulb mounting plate out and have a good look at the ground plane etc - ie the metal strips that are connected to vehicle earth side.

Sounds like you have a bad earth on the rear lights.

Agree! I had a bad earth on one of the bulbs that caused the middle brake light to stay on.

Remove bulbs one by one and see if fault goes. This will identify your faulty bulb hopefuly.

+1 does sound bad earth....

Thanks for the advice, I have since changed all the bulbs just to confirm it wasn't them at fault. Do you have any tips on checking the earth? What am I looking for exactly?

Thanks again

Just to update you, it was the tow bar that was shorting the lights out. £20 from an auto electrician and its sorted :-)
