Fuel consumption

What is your average fuel consumption in urban road skoda octavia mk1

As an average at present mine is saying its doing roughly 32mpg round town. It's had a few motorway journeys but the majority is round town over the past 700 miles.

Only going of the digital gauge though as not worked it out for myself yet :)

Petrol or Diesel ?

petrol

1.6 auto

Ignore mine then as wrong model, sorry about that.

about 27mpg, I only really tend to do max 5 miles in one go so car has only just warmed up

I'd imagine the 1.6 auto is probably the worst model for mpg due to power to weight ratio and transmission losses. How do you find yours?

The VRS can do really good mpg if driven carefully.

Around town I'd expect to get around 25-28mpg, and this will be at least 40mpg on a 10+ mile journey out of traffic.

My Skoda does 24 mpg urban road, is it reasonable? Are there ways to improve fuel economy car? I'd love to know if anyone tried something and it worked Skoda Octavia 1.

vrs in start-stop city drive 24mpg (imp) or 11,5L/100km

Mid twenties round town is the best I've seen. The vrs is awful in city driving. Even modern Audi v8 engines will probably better that now with cylinder deactivation. Although a mk1 Octavia wouldn't cost as much to buy!

If you want to get the most from it then you need to look at some of the sites like www.ecomodder.com or www.hypermiler.co.uk.

Things like tyre pressure, driving style, remove weight etc are the place to start and they are free. HTH

Wow, seems like I am a lucky lad with my VRs...

Normal driving with a mix of town / open roads never sees less than mid 30's. Even on a trackday I was getting high 20's.

Then since I started Uni, as I am now a poor student, fuel economy is everything. So I generally jump on the motorway to Uni (35 miles away) and trundle along lane 1 at around 60mph indicated. For this level of restraint, 45mpg is mine all day long :D Happy days.

I am running a stage-1 REVO remap, with a Pipercross airfilter and Forge dump valve (not that the last two items probably help with fuel consumption much, I agree...)

Then I run 225 / 45 ZR17 Michelin PS3 tyres, kept at 40psi.

This combination works wonders I am sure you'll agree!

Dude.....high 20's on a trackday.......are you my mum in disguise??!!! And to get mid thirtys mpg with a mix of driving must mean a lot of yours is done on 40 limits in 5th....there is no way you get those figures with town driving combined!!!

P.s I'm running 225/45zr 17's, a cai and rtech remap......but even standard I couldnt get near those figures m8

I think this is more peoples interpretation of "mixed". I used to get high 30s when I lived in the countryside and went to college in the city. Now living in the city, I struggle to get 30 and mostly i see it around 25mpg on the computer. Traffic absolutely kills my mpg.

Going off the computer, I get 32mpg for round town and usually high 30s on a run. Seen 44mpg on a motorway cruise.

Erm............ lol

Erm............ lol

That's about what I get lol

Just to make you jealous, I expect 60 mpg plus with a 75kw 1.9 Tdi estate, but then my driving style is tailored towards fuel economy rather than tyre erosion.

Lol, sorry - LOW 20's on a trackday! But yeah - Castle Combe, having a ball - the computer didn't go under 20. But no idea how accurate it is.

I also do get mid 30's with a mix. Probably 50% slow urban, 50% motorway. But maybe I should caveat that by saying that, as a student and therefore skint - I drive carefully and gently. So maybe that explains it :D

I was getting 17-18 mpg on my 3 mile trip to work which is 30 and 60 mph roads. So I removed and cleaned my front oxy sensor on my lunch and on the way home I got around 26 mpg. Defo worth a try.
