Harness-ing?

Featured Replies

Right guys, thinking about putting harnesses in my car, make it more track like, anyone running harnesses?

If so, what harnesses have you got and what have you done to anchor them down and running a rear ARB and that?

Thanks.

Will

Ill a doing this with some buckets after winter. You got the back seats out? I've got a big thick rear strut brace I made myself so I'm going to be drilling and tapping some holes into that for the harness bolts to go intoPosted Image

Use the rear seat belt mounts?

As above. This is my set up.

Harnesses aint a good idea for everyday driving. .. get in clip all parts on after a min of hassle your ready to be on way.. drive to the end of your concealed drive. Lean forward to look left and right. .. but you cant as the harness stops you haha

Also you cant reach glovebox for anything!

And so you shouldn't if your driving

If you want the feel of a harness using stock belt - push seat back - yank belt to "lock" it - hold tight, roll seat back forward to optimum - you'll now be held back in the seat. :)

This might not work if you are 6' 6" and have the seat right back anyway, but it still might work using the tilt alone.

And so you shouldn't if your driving

Maybe you've stopped at some lights and fancy a mint?

yeah but thats not a big issue! and whats this clip in parts, you'll have to show me mate. and like they say, rather be safe than sorry!

Nothing good is in the glovebox anyway!

I use std seat belt for the road so I can reach for the mints and harness on track days. Simples ! Lol!

Hahaha, no better way to explain it to be honest looool!

I use the same method as mr rooney, eye bolts into rear seatbelt mounts and the mounts on the seat subframe.  Use proper high tensile bolts like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seat-belt-harness-eye-bolt-metric-M10-x-1-5mm-thread-/260680326084?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cb1c21bc4 :)

You can get proper harness bars kinda like this

impp_1011_03_o%2B2006_mitsubishi_lancer_

As you can see the harness mounts differently and isnt an eye-bolt mount harness.

Im just concerned that drilling holes and bolting into a rear strut brace will reduce the structural integrity of the metal bar??  I mean if you crash, all the force will be transferred through the harness into the bar?

That rear strut does look good though, as a strut brace.  Just a thought :)
