Footballers love SUVs - It's true!

Featured Replies

Due to the tie up between Real Madrid and Audi, the entire squad of 23 players plus the coach (Carlo Ancelotti) were given an Audi each and were able to choose their own models.

Half the squad went for the Q7 3.0 TDI whereas Ancelotti got an A8 4.2 TDI, Sergio Ramos an RS5 and Cristiano Ronaldo bagged an RS6 Avant - taking his luxury car count to about 20.

Here's the full list, can't say I even heard of the majority of them:

Cristiano Ronaldo: Audi RS6 Avant

Sergio Ramos: Audi RS5

Xabi Alonso: Audi S7

Álvaro Arbeloa: Audi SQ5

Karim Benzema: Audi SQ5

Álvaro Morata: Audi SQ5

Carlo Ancelotti: Audi A8 4.2 TDI

Casemiro: Audi A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI

Gareth Bale: Audi Q7 3.0 TDI

Iker Casillas: Audi Q7 3.0 TDI

Fabio Coentrao: Audi Q7 3.0 TDI

Ángel Di María: Audi Q7 3.0 TDI

Sami Khedira: Audi Q7 3.0 TDI

Asier Illarramendi: Audi Q7 3.0 TDI

Isco: Audi Q7 3.0 TDI

Jesé: Audi Q7 3.0 TDI

Marcelo: Audi Q7 3.0 TDI

Luca Modric: Audi Q7 3.0 TDI

Nacho: Audi Q7 3.0 TDI

Pepe: Audi Q7 3.0 TDI

Carvajal: Audi Q5 3.0 TDI

Diego López: Audi Q5 3.0 TDI

Rafael Varane: Audi S3 Sportback

Jesús Fernández: Audi A3 Sportback 2.0 TDI

they like there german diesels

yeah its as thought they couldnt afford it lol

I suspect all the ones that went for the Q7 diesel family bus didn't actually want an Audi.  Which judging by that list is most of them.

So they just chose something they could give to someone else to run around in...

Let's be honest, if you are a footballer in a high image club you want something like an R8 or it's competitors with a better badge.  But they obviously weren't allowed them.

It's little more than a marketing exercise for the Q badge.

I very much doubt with free choice of ANY Audi so many would choose the same old big bus.

I am surprised on all those and also suspect they are told to have them instead of the sporty cars.

I am not so much into football, but what happened with Jesús Fernández? Is he goalkeeper or what? :)

I suspect that some of the "lowly" players in the team were told they could only have a certain model or upto a certain price bracket - but the more highly paid ones given a little bit more free reign hence Ronadlo going with the RS6?

Either that or they clearly have no taste whatsoever!

Looking at those that have taken the Q7, a lot of them are top players who will be on big wages. Bale, Di Maria etc etc.

Id have gone for the most expensive, sold it on, then used the money to buy a Range Rover. A proper car.

Or given it to the nanny / bit on the side to run around in....

Sadly the new Range Rover is not clearly ahead of other luxury vehicles any more. :(

Although they are "given" the cars, I don't believe that Audi allow them to keep them per se? Might be wrong but I suspect this is more a PR stunt for Audi - the article I read sounds like they do this every season and the players perhaps hand them back at the end of the season.

Perhaps contractually they have to show up to games in them or something.

Given my experience of the Q7 and the RR - I would say that the new RR is streets ahead of the Q7.

I didn't mean in comparison the Q7, it's just that in general the Range Rover is not as far ahead as it once was over luxury cars like the S class etc...

The organisation of the features on the low quality touchscreen in the car is noticably bad.  The Skoda Columbus is easier to use and better thought out.

And you are forced to use it for too many fuctions that used to involce a simple button press where they've removed a large number of buttons for things you used quite often.

Ah, see where you are coming from - I guess some comparable manufacturers and models have caught up with the RR in that respect. Still an awesome bit of kit mind!

If you compare with the S Class - that is the benchmark in terms of innovation and technology, and where new stuff starts to come out. Think 3-5 years from tech being on an S Class to making it into mainstream.

Why the hell did some of them buy Diesels!

Why the hell did some of them buy Diesels!

They haven't bought them!

They have been given them by Audi, in probably a very cheap Lease deal. It's a publicity "thing"!

Ah that makes sense. Still, If I was rich, I wouldn't swan around in a Diesel  :giggle:

Smart ar$e lol !

Audi will be able to " sell them on " to the fans with money,  at over inflated prices with the 'pedigree' of having been owned by a RM player.

I wish I could play football.

BossFox. Regarding the Range Rover, if I was to pick a cars interior right now, id go for the RR/ Jag XF, without even thinking about it. They have something about them that no other interior has. Of course, that is just me, but if i had the money, no other manufacturers would get a toe in.

The touchscreen may well hide a lot of functions, but that is to the benefit of the interior. You either have a nice uncluttered interior, or buttons for every single function. At least on the RR the important functions are simple push buttons. ie what mode you want it in. Although Auto would probably do the trick most of the time.

From what I have read (and this includes from someone who loves the S class), the RR is as good a cruiser as the S class, and is without doubt the best offroader around (normal road legal car wise). Thats not bad to be able to get a car like that.

It may not be the greenest or the fastest, but boy, is there a better all round car?

It is a shame about the touchscreen though. That does by all accounts seem to lag behind a lot of others. Still, its not a bad trade off.
