When i bought my Octy last November it was from a non skoda dealer.

The car only had 5k on the clock and i asked them about servicing.

They basically did an oil and filter change prior to me taking delivery.

And i am sure they have done it as the oil looked nice and clean when i took delivery and the filter had been changed and it is a skoda filter too.

When i asked them about the oil change they said they called the local skoda dealer and asked for a oil service kit for my model of Octy.

Now my car has now done 13k ish. And i am wondering if i should wait for the service light to come on, as it hasn't yet. Or shouldi go and get it serviced when the 10k has passed after me buying the car.

If the non long life oil had been used when i bought it with 5k on what are the chances of it making it to 13k or beyond?

Not sure what to do so any help is really appreciated. :confused:

What spec oil if any have you topped up with since having the car? If you are not sure that the seller used LongLife oil for the oil change, have the car serviced at 15K to be safe. If you want it to be on variable servicing then make sure LongLife oil is put in at that service.

I have topped the car up recently and used the longlife stuff.

I don't know for sure (maybe one of the techs can help out?) but I suspect that the service indicator (for fixed servicing, at least) works on a strict 10,000 miles since it was last reset (or when it last expired). If they did an oil-change service at 5,000 miles and reset the service indicator at the same time, I wouldn't expect yours to come on until you've done 15,000 miles.

The system works well if you do a constant annual mileage, but it can get confused if your annual mileage varies a lot. For instance, my car did a low annual mileage for the first couple of years, but it's been increasing since then:-

First service at 9,000 miles (annual inspection came before 10,000 miles)

Second service at 16,000 miles (as above)

Third service ("30,000 mile service") at only 26,000 miles - less than a year but 10,000 miles after the previous one.

...

and so on

...

"50,000 mile service" at 46,000 miles. That was at the end of May; the odometer is now at 50,200 miles :(

You need to be absolutely sure what oil was used. SID (service interval display) can be changed from variable to fixed, by re-coding the dash panel, the second from last digit needs to be changed from 2 to 1. As you got the car from a non Skoda dealer they probably would have reset the indicator using the dash buttons, but it would still be on the variable schedule - hence why you need to know what oil was used.

To be safe get it done at 15000 miles as the indicator may not come up until 2 years or 25000 miles. Cost wise I would guesss at about
