Replace battery?

Featured Replies

Car is 6 years old and still on the original battery after 88K miles.

No problems with it but I don't want a winter failure. My daily commute is 1 hour each way but I'm now running lights and heater etc.

Should I replace it or keep the original and stop worring?

Unless its showing signs of slowing down when turning over the engine I'd not worry.

An hours commute is well long enough for the battery to be replenished after the cold start.

Golden rules, coming leaving home lights - off, all electrical load off until engine started. All electrical load off before turning engine off.

I sold my 12 year old, 170,000 mile Peugeot 306 last year with the original battery fitted.

Look after your battery and it'll look after you!

Thanks Silver. I do the above and turning off the heater fans before killing the engine reduces the inside mositure a little too.

It tested 91% when serviced in October I should stop fretting. I don't want to pay £ 100+ for a retail battery that can be bought online for a lot less!

Me too :giggle:

if you are that worried buy a charger such as a ctek and give it a charge once a week. A charger will do better than an alternator ever will

I got a similar to the ctek from lidl for 14 quid the other month. Charge it up every couple of weeks to keep it topped up as the battery for mine is way too small and nearly didn't start a couple of times last winter even though the battery itself is fine.
