Average mileage to a full half tank

Featured Replies

Hello all. Just had my vrs just under two weeks now I filled it up to the top £60 of fuel and I've done 214 miles to half a tank does that sound about right to everybody else, I've had a couple of blast but just drive it steady most of the time.

Also I've found out a new trick on the key fob hold down the unlock button and it opens both front windows, this will be very handy in the summer months

400 mile is achievable from a tankful - 450 and more if venting on filling.  The gauges aren't exactly linear in operation but I suspect you did manage a bit of overfilling.

Windows - it also works on locking (lifts the windows up if you press and hold)..

sounds about right, couldnt be arsed to fill up bfore \i left for sheffield last week, had just less than half a tank did about 180 mles, and it hadn't quite got to the reserve...

Just under half a tank showing at Dover yesterday afternoon after 230 miles - squeezed 38 litres in (somehow).  Gauge was on full until I cleared Brussels

After iv done a full fill. I can do 170 miles sometimes before the first notch goes on the gauge.

Iv managed 500 miles on a tank before now but mine is a 1.2 htp. So im suprised how good your lot vrs consumption is!

Sayin that, its very hilly around here. I can watch the consumption go down to 28mpg just going steady up a hill. I guess a bigger engine wouldnt have to try so hard!

A vRS can drop to an indicated 25 mpg going up a long hill, and indicated 200 mpg going back down.

Its really just about what it averages out over the 10 gallons or what even.

35 - 45 mpg  seems pretty much what many drivers get from the tank regularly,

easy to get only 320 miles from 9-10 gallons,  as easy to get 420 +

420+ omg i must be doing something wrong here

sorry George i forgot,  I must be doing something wrong here ;)

im lucky if i get 300 and i thought i was economical

Looks like i need a vrs

My monte estate on just under 2k miles only ever gets between 290 - 320 miles to each tank of fuel

My indicated average, cutting around town is about 31mpg increasing to about 44mpg on my 15 mile commute to work.

I wonder how much of this is down to the engine still running in though, i suppose 10k on the clock should give me a better idea.

a vRS is not economic around town doing short runs, or not getting warmed up in cold weather,

you are lucky if you get 30 miles out of a gallon in that type of usage.

2,000-2,400 rpm on Supercharger only and no Turbo being used and the MPG can become very good.

25 miles per gallon or less is normal, if i was to do several 3-5 miles jaunts a day starting cold every time.

Proper Cold weather and its near 15 miles before the oil is at 80*oc plus and the average MPG is showing 44 mpg.

Running in made a difference for me. I was averaging 42mpg overall before 3000 miles. Now at 5500 miles its gone up to 46mpg overall, and i was very careful for the first few 1000 miles in order to run it in properly!

Thats good to know

You could realistically be looking at 50mpg by 10k miles then which is ace., how many miles do you get to a tank???

Ive been pretty much thrashing my car once warmed up after reading about germans using this method & not suffering any problems, personal preference though.

On the motorway at 80 im getting indicated approx 41mpg.

Ive yet to do a 1 journey full tank blitz.

Well I got 450 miles out of a tank and a quarter last time round and I drive, erm, not steady. Not the VRS though but  don't think they'll be that far apart with fuel usage. Hopefully  I can get through this tank without having to suck some excess jerry can fuel, great that it's free but I'd like to have a true number to go by for a tank.

As for the key trick, does the same thing on all VAG cars, my Fabia, dads VW Jetta, the bosses sons Audi A4. I believe his Astra did the same too, but can't remember.

How can you get a Full Half tank, it's either full or it's not ?

^^ That many ^^. Roughly. Depends how slow i fill it. Sometimes its full at £55 but iv managed £68 before now

I dont think so mate. Its run in now, and although i never thrash anything, i do like to get moving. Being a motorbiker lol. The manufacture claims for mine is 51mpg combined, and we all know how its rarely possible to get their claims aha

Yeah my uncles big into his golfs. Had new gti's every other year for about 12 years. He no longer bothers running in, reckons they dont need to be run in anymore due to the tolerances in manufacture. I prefer to do it properly though lol.

Wish i could get 41mpg at 80mph. Mine drops to about 35mpg at that speed.

Thru last winter while running in never got better than42. This last summer with 10 - 12k on clock average 46-47. Run it 80 and it shows38ish, keep below 60 and it'll do49 - 50

Quick update ive used the tank full to the top of the red line and got 330 miles there was afew blast runs but mainly running around town driving. This is a vrs 1.4 tsi

From full to fuel light I'm getting 340 or so miles and that's on normal Shell fuel. Super Unleaded is rare where I am now and when you find it it's expensive. MPG counter reads anything between 32-36mpg on my commute but if you saw the roads you'd wonder why it isn't even lower. So much fun but takes a lot of restraint to not drive harder.

Now I've got nearly 8k miles on the clock I'm getting 550/580 miles per tank. Monte 1.6TDI.

Id be better with that 1.6tdi really. I rarely do short journeys and the torque would be nice for the hills around here

  • 3 weeks later...

Just done 167 miles from oxford to norwich and got 42.2 MPG on a new engine with only 700 miles on the clock. Using Tescos Momentum, 4 up, and driving like i bougt it!

Just filled up as it went down to one bar above red this morning, did exactly 321 miles as I pulled into the garage and still had that little bar left.

1.2, pull back and let go type engine if anyone wants to compare.

300 - 350 per tank but my commute is mostly up hill when the car is barely warm...

I can and have got more on long runs (Huddersfield - Bournemouth) on just under indicated half a tank used...

320 max
