hybrid turbo and remap best option ?

Featured Replies

i have recently purchased a pd130 hybrid turbo from xman and when purchased he quoted its was possible to get it mapped up to 220 at a push so i thought i would get it mapped up to 200 just to be safe when i got in contact with darkisde devlopments they said it could only do 190bhp and 200 would be be a real struggle anyone no any other mapping places that can also give a rolling road printout and map out my egr ?? cheers guys

What you need to remember are these hybrids are basically a pd170 turbo machined to fit into other turbo housings thus making a hybrid. So in reality very similar to a pd150 turbo I believe. Think the wheels might be "slightly" bigger.

The other hybrids that's been on the market for years take a pd130/150/160 turbo and replace the compressor with a bigger one, normally a 52.

if thats the case more confused now because friend of mine has a pd150 golf and with a basic remap he got 200 bhp :S but i havent a clue bout anything mechanical but was really hoping for a nice 200bhp nothing to nuts !!

200bhp on one dyno might not make that on another dyno.

Should easily be able to get 200bhp with a hybrid pd130!!

well thats what i thought because a standard tubro and remap darkisde said 170 bhp so in there eyes a hybrid can only achieve an extra 20 bhp makes no sense in my head

Define hybrid.

This hybrid isn't the same as from the likes of turbo dynamics.

Probably quoting power figures without added VAT too ;)

Excited to see what people make with these hybrids. iipaul made 196bhp and 310 ish torque I think but with a shoddy map and a restricting intercooler. So it probably can do more.

What makes it different? Are the wheels smaller?

Must resist....

.....

Too much!!!

:D

That's mine!

Take from another well know tdi forum.

Exhaust Bore size

37.26mm A/R=.61 on GT1749VA

38.23mm A/R=.61 on GT1749VB

38.65mm A/R=.62 on GT1749VC

Compressor Exducer size

49mm trim=48 (34mm inducer) A/R=.46 compressor GT1749VA

49mm trim=54 (36mm inducer) A/R=.46 compressor GT1749VB

48.9mm trim=55.1 (36.3mm inducer) A/R=.50 compressor GT1749VC

So going off that the 1749vc hybrid is only slighty larger that a 1749vb.

A traditional "hybrid" uses a much larger compressor wheel to allow it to flow more air.

Edit.

This is the closet "52" I could find on the tdi forum.

GTB1752V VW T5 174hp

Compressor

inducer/exducer: 38.6 / 52mm

A/R: 0.45

Turbine

exducer/inducer: 43 / 39.5mm

A/R: 0.74

So assuming it a similar compressor wheel to what the likes of turbo dynamics etc use the a gt1752 hybrid will have a 2mm bigger inducer and 3mm exducer compared to a pd150/pd170 "hybrid"

Then we have a gtb1756 :)

gtb1756vk audi 2.7 tdi 190 bhp

intake:

inducer:41.5mm

exducer:56 mm

AR 45

exhaust:

inducer :43mm

exducer:40mm

And then a gtb2260 :)

gtb2260vk audi version 3.0 tdi 233/240 bhp:

intake:

inducer: 44.5mm

exducer: 60mm

AR 45

exhaust:

inducer :50mm

exducer:45mm

From what I've seen it'll be a turbo limitation not a mapping issue.

One nice thing is xman ones use GTB style vane assembly standard on the VC

This is more efficent and gives earlier spool

So many people can get different figures, everyones different, im running about 210bhp and 350ft/lbs on a safe map atm.

Thats what I would be happy with were abouts did you gets yours mapped to those figures mate ??

Is this one of Xmans hybrids?!

My old 130 hybrid managed 206 bhp and 377 ft lbs courtesy of jabba sports mapping

No mate an Allard hybrid.

Just edited my post to show other turbo details.

Ive got a mapper who custom maps for me, i go an see him weekly to play about, so just tinkering plus its free of charge now :D

Even if xmans turbo's don't make massive bhp. Its going to make more than a stock 130turbo plus at the price he is offering them you can't really complain too much

Agree. New/recon turbo at that price is good. Add the fact it's based on a pd170 and it's a good bolt on upgrade.

Dont the newer GTB turbos vs hybrid have a better power curve?

  • 1 month later...

Can anyone shed anymore light on how they got on with the 1749vc hybrid from Xman?

I've got a pd150 to fit it to and just wondering how people got on with setting it up and mapping correctly?

Thanks,
