The dealer swapped my worn tyres to the back, since then I have read in Auto Express that you are best off with the better tyres on the back.

I think it was the Michelin website that said the same

INdustry recommendations from vehicle manufacturers, tyre manufacturers and motoring organisations is to fit new tyres to the rear axel

Mine came with Bridgestones on from new Dec 04 and have to say they are very noisy. Now have Michelin Pilot Primacy on all round and they are nice and quiet and a great price from CostCo

My May 05 Octy2 1.9Tdi Elegance was delivered with Bridgestone Turanzas (205/55 16). I thought the road noise was pretty poor generally and especially bad on concrete motorways which made it roar like a squadron of Lancaster bombers. I

So are we all agreed the Primacys are the ones to go for ?? :)

If it were my car I'd say primacy or pilot exalto 2, but then i like mich tyres

I finally got around to looking at the certificate for my Octy2 1.9 TDI; it doesn't bother to list the makes of tyres, only the wheel sizes and tyre dimensions.

6J*15 ET47: 195/65 R15 91H

6.5J*15 ET50: 195/65 R15 91H

6.5J*15 ET50: 205/60 R15 91H

6J*16 ET50: 205/55 R16 91H

6.5J*16 ET50: 205/55 R16 91H

7J*17 ET54: 225/45 R17 91W

Dont suppose you can find out what the speed rating for my 03 1.8TDCI Ghia on 17" alloys shoule be? I put Ws on to be on the safe side, but would like to know! :)

I fitted X4 Hankooks to my 4x4 Estate after it saw all the factory Dunlops off in 18,000 miles, totally transformed - better grip (once scrubbed in) and very quiet. Dont knock the brand, factory fit on many Korean manufacturers models and seen em on Supercharged Range Rover Sports 'Riding on 22's' more than once. Best bit, all 4 fitted and balanced etc for just

I hope to take delivery of a set of 245/45/17w Vredestein Ultrac tyres today to replace the "awful" Dunlops which were fitted in the factory. For three years running Vredestien have come out top in Auto express tyre group tests against all the top brands, especially in the wet. Not the cheapest but by far not the most expensive either.
