Trip computer bleeping at 4 degrees/freezing

Featured Replies

Anyone else get this?

Latley as the temperatures have dropped, I will be driving along and the trip display will show lets say, 5 degrees. If the temperature drops to 4 or below and if the ice symbol shows at the same time, there is a bleeping sound (identical to that when the fuel light comes on).

It is worth noting that it will not always bleep when at 4 degress or lower. It only happens if the ice symbol also displays.

I have a multi function display pre-facelift. Not maxidot.

Can this be turned off with vcds? It makes me jump when driving as it comes ot of nowhere!

Mine's a 2013 Monte Tech with standard Maxidot and it does exactly the same.

Most of the other cars I've had have also done this but only when the temp dropped to 3 C.

I doubt this can be turned off via VCDS as it's a safety warning feature, correct me if I'm wrong though, I don't even think it can be silenced with the Maxidot either.

Mine beeps but only if the temp drops while I'm driving. It does not beep if the temp is 4 or below when I start the engine.

The ice symbol always shows on my maxi dot when it hits 4 degrees.

Don't know if this can be disabled.

Nope, its hard coded into the dash and you can't alter it

As it is on all VAG cars, they could have used a different bong though.

Should beep when the temp drops to 4 deg and the snow flake symbol will flash. It's not just maxidot, they all do it

Why mute it? I think its handy. With heaters n all the comfort things in cars today, its easy not to realise how cold it is outside. Its nice to have a 'grip isnt at its best' warning

I thought it was a 'don't forget your jacket' reminder ;)

My mk1 vrs did this, made me jump everytime but so did the low screen wash and fuel beep, our fiat multipla also dose it at 3 degrees, that makes me jump too but I do like the fact the car ensures your aware of the low temperature outside and the prompt to drive accordingly.

OMG, If the bleep makes you jump you need to see a doctor.

God knows what would happen if he found a spider inside the car.

It's a safety thing so should be left alone.

Do spiders bleep?

It happened to me once last winter - made me jump, too.

If a beep makes him jump!!

Yep i also get it too, keep thinking it's either Fuel or Tyre Pressure it's horrible lol.

War in Syria is horrible.

Suggest this is at worst for some a minor annoyance, for others an acceptable safety feature that likely heralds temperatures which require additional caution when driving in.

Take my wife's approach to annoying noises from a car..

Even my Peugeot Van does it.

Its a very good idea.

Wow hope your wearing your brown corduroy trousers when your phone rings.

That's the one! Tells me if I should put my hat on when I get out of the car and into the scraper tractor, it's cold in that thing when the beep goes off.

Ok guys, I think this is one of the most humorus threads of Briskoda. Great forum attitude to help people overcome their "fear of the beep".

Thank you all Briskodians! You are Great people

It is a warning of black ice on the road, basically! If the temperature drops to 4 degrees, it warns of the likelihood of frozen road surfaces. It takes a little getting used to though, (unless you are in Scotland, then its always on anyway, LOL)  but the bing should make you look at the dash board display, also known as idiot lights!

The fuel light will bing at a certain level and bing again every time you stop and re-start the engine, until you refuel. (I guess stop start cars omit this feature, though)!

The handbrake warning will bing, continually, if you forget to lower the handbrake and exceed about 15mph, with it still on.

Each and every one of these warnings is there, along with signal tick/tocks, lights on after removing keys, etc, because the average driver simply would not notice the dilemma facing them, without these aids. (Hence the name idiot lights).

There are two things I dislike about my vRS -

1. This bloody 'ping' - despite the length of time I've had the car my heart still jumps when it goes off - in a Fiesta the 'ice symbol' simply glows a different colour - no heart attack-inducing noise.

2. The position of the heated rear screen button - I can never find it - end up putting the ASR(?) thingy on / off (I can usually only find out if it's on or off by booting it away in slippery conditions as there doesn't seem a visual way to tell).

Do I have a different bleep? I would never describe It as a noise that would scare me or make me jump...... Must be 'well ard' me :D
