Bio Diesel problem

Recommended Posts

I heard on 'You and yours' and read in the news paper, that the 7% bio diesel that is now added, is causing some fuel filters to become blocked and the car going into limp mode.  This applies to all diesel of whatever brand.  This results in a repair bill of £150 to £200.  My fuel cap is clearly marked 'No Bio Diesel', so how big a problem is this going to be if all diesel contains bio.

How will this affect warranty claims if the engine is damaged?

More specifically, this post.

And, of course, the owner's manual (May 2013 edition, page 191) states:

All diesel engines can be operated with diesel fuel with a maximum content of 7% bio-fuel (B7), which complies with the standard DIN 52638 in Germany (in Austria C 1590, in France EN 590).

But then who reads the manual...

7% Bio Diesel (B7) has been in retail diesel for quite a while now (since before 2010). The problem with fuel filters usually happens on older vehicles which have never has B7 through their systems. This has the effect of flushing out your tank and depositing waxy gunk in the filter. A quick filter change should sort it out very quickly. Since yeti's are quite new vehicles, the chance of them never been run on B7 are very small, so you've nothing to worry about. As a further mitigator, our fuel feeds are heated prior to the filter making it even less likely that waxing will occur.
