Shell 7% Biodiesel

Featured Replies

Was at Local SHELL station filling the misus car on petrol. New big sticker on the pump stating SHELL diesel now contains 7% biodiesel. How safe is this in my 105PD Octy??

All diesel contains an element of bio in it now, right across europe and has done for some time now. Looks to me that shell have decided to use it as a selling point.

I noticed the same thing on Thursday night when I filled up, but even though V power was 3p more I filled up with that, and what a difference it feels more responsive as if I have gained another 10BHP, the proof was in the mileage 200 miles for a quarter of a tank full to the first quarter mark, in town running  and less gear changing

I thought about it when I saw the 7% and something stuck in my mind that Bio was not good for VW engines, something to do with the pump not being lubricated

All diesel fuel can now contain up to 7% bio (formerly 5%) without it having to be declared on the pump. Why Shell would want to make a virtue of this I'm not sure, as in the industry there are huge problems with bio material multiplying growth in storage tanks and fouling pump filters.

I'd guess it's so they can say we told you so at the pump should you have any problems in the future.

Been running shell diesel in my Fabia VRS PD130 since i first got it and never had any issues with the 7% Bio Diesel. I'm actually researching the engine a bit more to see how much Bio Diesel i can actually get away with running

If you have a PDF check the owners manual. In the Superb it stated dont use Bio Diesel but that might be 100%, cant check as we no longer have the car

not just shell,

my local bp garage AND tesco are nowing showing this on there pumps,

wonder why?

If you read the sticker properly i'm sure it mentions it's now a law or a regulation that they must inform you

My eyes are fine, the sticker only says this fuel now contains 7% biodiesel...Time to add Millers??

Hmm Shell sticker i'm sure says it's a new regulation

I've done 11k in the 5 months with my Fabia and at least 10k of that has been shell diesel so i'd not worry. As i said also i'm planning on finding out how much Biodiesel i can actually run in the car without causing issues

Sorry I just stumbled upon this and had to respond.... It is due to EU legislation, and using 7% in a ordinary diesel engine is fine as the diesel blend complies with EN 590 “Automotive fuels – Diesel – Requirements and test methods” and the used biodiesel complies with EN 14214 "Automotive fuels - Fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) for diesel engines – Requirements and test methods”. So should you experience any problems using the fuel you will not void the factory warranty of your vehicle.

Regarding lubrication, the addition of biodiesel is actually increasing the diesels lubricity and has in Sweden for around ten years (if I do not remember wrong) been used as an additive in ULSD (ultra low sulfur diesel), as the removal of sulfur containing molecules (due to EU legislation in the ‘90s) has reduced the lubricity to critically low values.

When the manual states "not to use biodiesel", B100 blends (neat biodiesels) are meant. Using B7 blends is fine…
