Recommended Sealant

Featured Replies

What is the recommended sealant to eradicate rear door leaks ?

I think most folks recommend Plumbers Gold. I used this and it's done a great job.

I'd recommend not getting the clear one though, as it can be difficult to see where you've put it.

I used Shell tixophalte on our Fabias and it didn't need doing again

while I owned them at least.

id definatly say plumbers gold, i've done mine twice now and feel they need doing again because the carriers was damp when i did it. plumbers gold works in the wet.

About £7 from toolstation, which should be plenty to all the doors.

get plenty of new door cards clips though!

how is it the best sealant if you're having to do them a third time?

I didnt use it the first two... probably should've made that clear really

Cheers for the replys guys.

It would seem that the plummers gold is easier to get hold of than the shell tixophalte, unless anyone is aware of where I can easily get hold of some in Teesside ?

Is there any benefit in using the shell over the plummers gold ?

Hello,

After cleaning-out degraded sealant and applying fresh sealant in it's place.

I then drilled a couple of extra holes each side of original bottom rivets and riveted into place.

The card was distorted and had warped away at the bottom, but when finished card was tight against inner door frame.

No-more leaking door cards now..LOL

Just contacted Derek Slack (Middlesbrough) to enquire at the cost of the trim clips, does £0.76 each seem a bit excessive for what they are ?

Any other recommended parts suppliers in Teesside ?

I've seen them before now in The Range but the ones from Skoda are the latest variant and are less susceptible to breaking IIRC. You'll only know how many you'll need after taking off the door card as the don't all always break.

That's the cost of em, slight discount from bickertons but have postage cost...

Can try using the part number from that link on eBay, might get em cheaper.

Id replace em all, the rubber seal was a bit degraded on my originals, and they are cheap enough to just buy a full set for each door anyway.

I bought a pack of these as they're about half the price. Although probably not genuine, they seem to do the job as well as the ones that were there in the first place and the plastic isn't brittle.

Same here, they seem to do the job. :)

Roof and Gutter sealant

Roof and Gutter sealant

Had to do mine twice using roof and gutter sealent, its better than it was but given up.an bought plumbers gold and going to take the carriers off next time

The thing is, there's roof and gutter sealant

and then theres roof and gutter sealant...

And it helps if you wield a frame gun on a regular basis.

It's like sawing a piece of wood, anybody can do it but it takes

practice to do it well.

If I had to do it again I'd give this a try.

Looks like it might well work...

There was a recent (time flies ....maybe about a month ago) thread on this forum about using aluminium tape instead of a sealant.

Worth a look.
