Whys my insurance so expensive?

Featured Replies

Strange. 23 here, PR3 postcode (just outside of Preston), paying just over 1K for an Octy vRS with mods declared with Sky.

Give them a try.

as above, have a tinker with the quote machine and you may be amazed. I tried to get a premium online and selected tree surgeon in the occupation box (the car wasn't even for business use) and got a quote for £2500! Changed that one detail and it dropped to £500. Go figure.

The thing is, the declaration has to be honest and accurate or you have paid for Insurance Cover that lets you drive around, maybe never be stopped,

but that Insurance can be invalid if or when it comes to requiring to claim.

That's bad mate :(

I always put my rents down as named drivers on Confused.com and that gives me the cheapest prices.

Thinking im paying £600 on a seat ibiza sport PD130. 21 with 3 years ncb

I'd just tinker with all the settings to see what's throwing your prices up. Its weird for me now as I can get insured on a clio 182 for the same price!

Hope you've declared your other tinkering habit :P I found the comparison sites useless as soon as I added even simply mods, they just doubled the premium.

You get to a point where the car doesn't matter all that much, but you and the postcode do. I'm at the stage where postcode is the largest 'hit' on my insurance and there's not much I can do about it, changing cars etc moves it 15% either way at most.

OP: Have you tried quotes on a Fiesta/Corsa? You may be surprised at the effect. And never believe what your mates tell you they are paying... :P

Do you have a Named driver with a nice clean licence, safe job and use of another vehicle and their own insurance.

A very important point that I fear many here, simply adding OAP's onto their policy without them knowing and telling their insurance they have use of another vehicle. In the event, one side has to be guilty of a false declaration (obtaining insurance by fraudulent means), surely? Just make sure if your adding your parents that they are aware and notify their own insurers also To those who haven't, I would suggest you do so.

As to 'OAP's',

if that is someone no longer working, 'Retired', that might not be the best person to bring down the cost,

if they were to be possibly requiring to drive your vehicle on occasion and being a named driver. & A honest declaration.

I'm an OAP, have been for years.

Both our daughter's have added me on their Insurance as when I move or drive their cars I'm covered fully comp, not just 3rd party on my policy.

It has reduced both their payments by hundreds each time. One lives in Cambridge and I'm in London, when she comes down I drive her car around.
