Change of plan: Used diesel VRS or used Golf GTD

Featured Replies

Thanks, am I right in thinking heated seats only available with leather?

No heated seats are available with standard seats too. My Mk2 VRS had them with black alcantara, red stitching option.

  • We'll after a long trip up to Lincoln from kent yesterday my search came to a very pleasing end! Took a gamble getting one way train ticket up there, but the seller was true to his word about his VRS.

  • I recently had the same decision to make and the VRS and GTD were high on my list. I discounted the Scirocco as I think it's design is starting to date, I also looked at and discounted the 3-Series as

  • This one has xenon's, is diesel, DSG, low mileage and under budget. A little old though on a 59.   It says sat nav but it looks like the standard Bolero head unit to me...   http://www.autotrader.

As black sheep says, heated seats available as an option with standard interior.

Easy way to tell when looking at potential purchases online is to look at the climate dials- if it's got heated seats it'll have a seat symbol in the centre of the temperature knob (on the facelift).

Wouldn't be without my heated seats!

Thanks for that guys.

My superb has heated seats so nice to know that it is available without leather, although I may go for leather again, but not too keen on just black!

Just for info, I will be trading my vRS into my local dealer soon, its on a 12 plate, July 2012 registered, spec is TDI DSG with sunroof, black alloys, black with red stitching, parking sensors, heated seats, auto lights and wipers, sunroof and factory bluetooth, no sat nav or xenons, but its a great car, just turned 10K, its going end of February, not sure what the dealer will be asking for it, but if you were interested I can put you in touch with the dealer or something maybe.

Its a cracking car, the sat nav is easily solved with installing a Columbus (car is already coded as I put a Coilumbus in it, but thats now sold) and the xenons, it has brighter bulbs in it at the moment.

its a pity you couldnt have sold it private james,my have been intrested myself, but not willing to pay dealer inflated prices. i remember your pics when car was new, what a great spec,  your new mk3 spec also my ideal spec. the combi looks awsome!!

My mate with vcds enabled the coming home lights on my 59 vrs. It does have auto headlights, not sure if its possible without that.

Right, after plenty of searching online, and considering a nearly new Seat Leon TDI, I have finally decided that I will be looking for a Manual TDI VRS around 2yrs old hatch.

The leon interior still has lots of hard plastic and I cannot see myself wanting to spend most of my working day in - the seats seemed quite thin, so for 100+ miles daily not worth risking.

The Golf GTD is just too expensive for my budget of £15k, keeping in mind age and mileage restrictions.

So I looked at a DSG TDI just to get the MFSW, which i have in my superb and cannot now do without.

However, I have seen that you can retrofit the MFSW in 2011-12 models, so will defo look at doing that. So budget £500 for that job? ( anyone recommend a fitter in Kent / South east?)

Will this invalidate any remaining warranty?

Looking to also fit DTUK type chip after a few months

Does bluetooth come as standard on the VRS or will i need the module under the passenger seat as in my superb?

Right, need to sort out my finances and then look for anything decent around £14500 (after negotiating discount of course!)

Spec must have: Leather heated seats,

Would like: - Bi Xenons, Sat Nav, Auto lights, Bluetooth

Hopefully should be sorted end Jan!

Anyone want a Nov 2009 Superb 2.0TDI Elegance 102K?

The fun begins now you've made your mind up! You can look forward to all those hours on Autotrader, this forum, spending money you don't have and modifying a car you haven't even bought yet. It's ace :)

Well, I have spent my christmas break looking for cars everywhere -  autotrader, various other websites, even took trips to my local VW & Seat dealers.

Now that I have settled on a VRS already have in mind to go for the manual TDI and get the MFSW upgrade, as I was not overly keen on the DSG box and extra costs to buy and run.

This will be my first ever car that I will own since I got my licence in 1983, always had company cars.

I will have to resist the urge to tinker with it anymore, but I think I am just a tad too old to be a boy racer

quick question rte bluetooth:

is this available on cars without sat nav? if not, is it a case of getting the BT module and wiring in to bolerus?

Is voice control also available or is columbus the only way for this?

Would voice control work on a retrofit MFSW?

Thanks

You can access with it a Bolero yes, but I don't believe you can have voice control. It would be useful if the car has maxidot and this will increase the range of modules available to you.

The cheaper Amundsen sat nav unit has bluetooth built in in some cases if you can find a car with that (just needs a mic fitting and activation).

I have seen a VRS here: http://www.harveycoopercars.co.uk/cardesc/skoda-octavia-vrs-20tdi-479

Seems to have the phone button on the bolero, is there anyway of checking for maxidot?

Also, your thoughts on car would be appreciated. Last service was in Aug 13, on longlife

Thanks

There is a phone button on all Boleros regardless of whether the bt is present. But that is very well specced, with front sensors for example, and may have bt already. The ad talks about a multi function display which is prob maxidot, but the pictures do not include a conclusive shot. I'd ask them about both, and for that price, I would want both and a bit off!!!

Looks lovely though.

Thanks Adam. It does look in good condition, but photos can be very misleading.....

He's not sure about maxidot - what would be a quick check for him to do?

Also, he is willing to come down to £13800 with 6 mths tax included.

Only problem is I'm in Kent and he's in harrogate, so I may be buying blind, although the chap assures me the car is in great condition!

Thanks

PAUL

Nice looking car! Always liked the grey ones :-)

It says multi function steering wheel, it hadn't got that as it's a manual, maxi dot is simple, if when the car door opens it shows a diagram of the car with a door open it has maxi dot, if it doesn't, it hasn't , but still looks a nice car :-)

Thanks, my current superb is the same colour,.

The dealer is taking a pic of display and sending to me.

If it hasn't got maxidot, can this be added with the software?

  • Author

Right, it does not have bluetooth, so how much would this set me back to retrofit to factory standard - or is there an improvement on this?

thanks

The cheapest way in my opinion, and best value, would be to get the Amundsen Sat Nav unit, the later Amundsen Plus I believe, has the BT module already within the unit, it just needs activating and a mic attaching to it, job done, also the later plus models have DAB as well, so maybe look out for one them?  Ebay will be your friend on that.

Otherwise its the factory BT unit which will be on ebay around £200 or so, but thats a lot more fitting I believe.

As for Maxidot, no, its a full binnacle change if it hasn't got it.

I would go and view and be prepared to walk away. No one should buy blind in my opinion. Granted its far to go particularly in your case and the impending weather but its always worth travelling for the right car.

Bluetooth modules and wiring can be found cheaper second hand, but yes up to 200 plus fitting depending on the module you go for. So James' first suggestion is not a bad one as you could probably swap over the Bolero for an Amundsen for that 200 quid with some canny buying and selling...

thanks Adam, I will probably end up going to view it as i will have to drive it home anyway should I decide to buy it.

Re the btooth, is it just a case of swapping out the bolero plu and play or is there some coding?

Right, I am viewing this VRS tomorrow am ;http://www.motorline.co.uk/Used-Car-Details/used-skoda-octavia-20-tdi-cr-vrs-hatchback-race-blue-metallic-manual-diesel-ID_1388596604185267.aspx

If anyone has any info re this then please let me know.

The dealer has agreed £13290, with a service and resetting to longlife, as it was due a service in 4k's.

He also said he would change the rear tyres as they were making a rumbling noise that could be mistaken for dodgy bearings but it's fine now.

Also get 1 year warranty (remaining maufacturers warranty up to Aug 14) to Jan 15.

I think this is a good deal?  the car is immaculate so I'm toild but I'll see this for myself tomorrow.

I did like the steel grey VRS in harrogate, but it was proving too far to go and check out and coilect, plus the price of £13800.

So this race blue VRS same car except front sensors, but 15k more miles, £500 cheaper.

I have a mate on standby in Leeds tmrw to check out the grey vrs just in case!

Assuming it is 1 owner and has full service history it looks ok for the money with a service and new tyres. I'd personally prefer 36k miles over 21k as there's a good chance they have been good miles so to speak (i.e. not a series of less than short town based trips).

Check it has maxidot though for your BT requirements and perhaps haggle for full Hunter type wheel alignment if it has been out causing the tyre issue in the first place!

If the rear tyres were making a rumbling sound like a wheel bearing then that is normally a sign of the rear tyres sawtoothing (search the forum, there will be loads of topics about it) which means that the geometery is wrong and the car will need 4 wheel alignment and geometery check carried out (about £100) to solve that. Also looking at the picture taken from the drivers door there are what looks like 3 lights on in the speedo with the engine running. The orange one at the bottom of the 3 is the low fuel warning light and the top red one is the no seatbelt warning light but there looks to be a third one (red) in between those two and I can't recall what it is. It is probably nothing but I would check it anyway.

Anyone have any idea what the third light is?

Check it has maxidot though for your BT requirements

Looking at the photos it doesn't have maxidot

I wasn't sure about maxidot either Stu, but isn't the light one of test lights which come on when the ignition is first turned on (e.g. battery, handbrake etc.)
