Change of plan: Used diesel VRS or used Golf GTD

Featured Replies

That is the way premium connects, so it needs an rSap phone.  What phone do you have again?  If it is an iphone or another non rSap type phone, try changing to the hands free option in the Maxidot and connecting then.

  • We'll after a long trip up to Lincoln from kent yesterday my search came to a very pleasing end! Took a gamble getting one way train ticket up there, but the seller was true to his word about his VRS.

  • I recently had the same decision to make and the VRS and GTD were high on my list. I discounted the Scirocco as I think it's design is starting to date, I also looked at and discounted the 3-Series as

  • This one has xenon's, is diesel, DSG, low mileage and under budget. A little old though on a 59.   It says sat nav but it looks like the standard Bolero head unit to me...   http://www.autotrader.

it's a blackberry curve 9230 and it works with my superb columbus. when you say try changing to the hands free option in maxidot, what do you mean?

thanks

Depending on the module there should be a means to connect in hands free mode.  There should be a option under settings -- phone mode or similar if it is available.  Do you know the module part number.  Its on the module itself or perhaps Keith can recall from when he fitted it?

Having said all this I thought a Blackberry could do rSap (although I'm not certain).

There are no options for connecting in handsfree mode that I can see, just an add new user, paired devices and media streaming.

I have emailed Keith (Ian) for info on the BT module, but will; check it in the morning.

Something I have noticed also is their is no maxidot control for parking senor volumes and tones, the car has front & rear.

Cheers Adam

That is on the Columbus in sounds setup.

The PDC thing could be build year related. The modules may provide that functionality on the superb but not the Octavia of that model year.

I have a very late 2013 Blackline and I can control my rear PDC bleep volume in the maxidot; I can also turn my DRL's on and off and the Alarm chirp. Also am able to tell my rear wiper to switch on as soon as i go from intermittent to permanent wipe

Had some discussions with some guys on here with ever so slightly older cars and some of the functions were missing, could be a different convenience module or a coding difference.

Either that or the sensors are aftermarket or its something that does just need coding. Do you get OPS display on the columbus?

ok I'll have a look for that

I do get the OPS display on the columbus. I'll have to see if anyone can code it for me

Thanks

right I have this BT unit:  7P6 035 730L

SW 3200

HW: H15

model UHV

Is this the premium, and if not is it a case of a simple swap? This has just one cable connecting - is that ok?

Thanks

I believe these modules only connect in hands free mode only (i.e. rSap is NOT supported) and the fact there is no second GSM aerial connection would back that up.

But I would have thought you should still be able to pair unless the Blackberry can only use rSap mode? Someone who knows about the Blackberry will need to help on that I'm afraid.

Thanks Adam

If I swap to the premium unit, will not having a gsm aerial connection make a difference?

  • Author

Or will i need another aerial?

You will need the aerial (easily fitted) as the premium module turns car into the phone and so the phone aerial is no longer part of the system.

  • Author

thanks adam, could you point me to a guide to fit the aerial and also perhaps a supplier?

Thanks again

Supplier: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-SKODA-GSM-FAKRA-Antenna-BLUETOOTH-PREMIUM-FSE-UHV-MFD3-RNS510-RNS-510-SEAT-/120977270583?pt=UK_CE_GPS_Accessories_Software_ET&hash=item1c2acea737 or http://www.carsystems.pl/gsm-antenna-for-premium-bluetooth-5n0-and-3c8,id110.html

To fit it needs to be stuck to the top left hand corner of the windscreen with the wire run down the inside of the A pillar, then down the side of the dash (remove the faceplate on opening the door for access), and then down the lower a pillar trim and below the under door trim to the seat.  Then run the connector through the whole in the carpet to the underseat location of the BT module (assuming it is under the passenger seat?).

When running down the A pillar be careful of the airbag, if you have one, (disconnect the battery) and ensure the wire is cable tied to the other wiring running down the pillar.  The A pillar trim just pulls off, although if you have an airbag, there is a torx screw under the airbag sign to remove first.

thanks adam,

is there not a way of hooking it up to the car antenna? also my BT is under the drivers seat, so probably have to mount on the drivers side?

Cheers

You could do so long as it doesn't block vision (with the same instructions in mirror image).  I'm not sure you can as it a GSM signal it is picking up not a radio signal (presumably they are different frequencies).

thanks adam, this is getting to be a royal PITA! Thought I had it sorted when I got this car. Only budgeted for DTUK mod and privacy glass (being done on Saturday)

I may have to get a spare handset and see if it works before I commit to changing the BT. We are getting work iphones later in the year, so if I were to get the rsap route would they work?

Cheers

PAUL

No your current module is fine for an iphone.  It is not worth changing the module if you are getting an iphone as the handset won't let you use the premium options that rSap can give you anyway.

well connected my daughters Iphone fine with bluetooth streaming too - kinda makes the MDI redundant - or is there another benefit for MDI?

Also what difference does the premium BT have v the one I have?

May just keep current setup and change handsets if Ok'd by work.

Thanks

The MDI gives more control on the head unit, incorporates charging and shows song tags etc.  It can also be used to play music on a simple memory stick.

Premium BT will give SMS display (and write if you want to kill yourself!) functionality on the head unit and maxidot and allows you to create a WiFi hotspot by tethering your phone to the unit.  This means you can use your phone to listen to a digital radio app for example but it incurs data charges. But the premium features are only possible if the phone connects in rSap mode which the iphone doesn't.  Otherwise the premium units connect in exactly the same way as your current unit and offer the same functionality.

OK that makes it clearer then, if i have some spare cash then I may go the premium route

Thanks Adam
