suspension upgrades, looking for advise

Featured Replies

KW V1 coilovers are very nice on the road, hard enough to give you a nice sporty feel but not harsh at all :)

Spend it sensibly

Bilstein B12 kit ( B8 shortened dampers with Eibach springs)

new top mounts/ bearings and gaiters( bump stops not needed on front with b8 as built in)

Whiteline rear bar

Defo console bushes ( id go polybush ones)

Upgrade brakes with whats left

The ap springs and dampers do seem to cheap to be good. But think it handles better, looks better and isn't too harsh on my car

,....

Is that correct because i've got the Bilstein B8's to go on and i've only bought x2 Ibiza bump stops for the rear but i've been told i need to buy x2 for the fronts as well??

Yes the B8 fronts have built in bump stops.

Thanks Damian. Reading a few other topics on the B8's being used on other cars seems to suggest that people have still used seperate bump stops as well, as without them causes too many bangs, etc.

I've ordered the x2 from above and if they're not needed, i'll just stick them up for sale.

They wont fit due to piston red being far bigger than oe nearly double the thickness

since this is a job i aim to have completed around April - May time, still gives me ample time to research, and this is one thing i seriously want to get right especially  since i am, if i feel the will be sufficient benefits, willing to break the thousand pound mark on parts alone to get the suspension to very high quality standard, everything else brakes (which have already been upgraded to be fair), transmission, various other performance upgrades, will all eventually  have there turn and own set budgets down the line, but for now am just 100% focusing on just the suspension.

Have to say there are so many tough choices out there when it comes to suspension, must have already given least 50 maybe even 100 hours research to this already and OMG! there is are just so many divided opinions on everything, i mean seriously am still on the fence wondering if coilovers would be a better choice to dampers and springs

leading the way atm, as if say someone stuck a gun to my head and forced me to at least just pick a set of dampers, then it would be the Bilstein B12 pro-kit, consisting of B8 dampers combined with Eibach springs, because i just feel that even if a better option exists for the cost, that this is still a very good choice, the 25mm fixed lowering standard seems to be exactly how low a personally want to go, and i really can imagine me ever wanting to adjust height once i find a place i like if i was to go for an adjustable kit. the value seems right been obtainable under for £600, leaving me with sweet amount of cash to hit on other areas of the suspension, and on the subject of suspension been a divided mine fields of mix opinions, nobody seems to have anything bad to say about Bilstein dampers or Eibach Springs

On the subject of bump stops, i was thinking since they are so cheep, this maybe something worth really worth aiming for the very top grade on, so i dont suppose anyone knows a certain type that will fit the B8's that stands out above the rest?

Bump stops are cheap because there's nothing to them, as long as they fit your dampers, surely the Pro kit comes with bump stops?

I have to say that if you're happy with 25mm drop then buy the B12 pro kit, I'm not aware that there any dampers better engineered than those Bilsteins, Koni's are certainly as good though. Eibachs are and always have been just about the best designed and manufactured springs available.

If I were you I'd get all the suspension bushes and the drop links replaced as well (I have the Meyle HD drop links and they're excellent, much beefier) and get a RARB, any RARB will do. That way you KNOW every single suspension component is new and you can get the car accurately four-wheel aligned and forget about it.

thats exactly my plan mate, am fairly lucky that it already has the rear anti-roll bar, thanks to one of the previous owners so going to keep that, everything else complete refresh, top mounts, bushes and drop links, will defo check out those meyle HD's u recommend, so thanks for the tip, seems from what everyone's saying, powerflex bushes are the way to go, plus i like the simplicity on offer of been able to ebay a complete set in one swoop, and if when the time to buy arrives, i'm still happy to go with a complete set of powerflex bushes, then will probably go with there bump stops as well, its having them front and back regardless whether they needed or not, would hate nothing more than to be left wishing i should have had fitted somthing as simple as bump stop along with everything else once its all done

Am wanting a strut brace on the front also, not really fussed on which one of them to go for ether, more than likely end up been the seat one, but will keep an eye out for a bargain there between now and then, since that's the only part i would go secondhand on, nothing a spray of paint wont fix on one of them for sure

hi

bump stops are not needed on the front B8 Dampers as they have internal bumpstops due to the inverted design of the shock !!

just replace the rears....

As mentioned they wouldn't fit either, the pistons on the front B8 shocks are about twice as thick as standard.
