Can anyone help me diagnose a squeal?

Featured Replies

Evening all, I hope everyone is having a nice build up to Christmas.

I'm having an issue. My car has had a squeal for a while but it seems to be getting worse. It's a constant noise, quite loud and noticeable. It doesn't change with speed/rpm.

It's coming from the belt area. The cambelt was done recently. I was thinking belt/tensioner or bearing?

I'm just slightly worried by it. I don't want my engine to expire or to lose power steering or anything else connected to the belts.

Cheers all.

How would I know?

It seems to make the noise whether it's on or off?

If the cambelt was done recently and the noise started after, I would pop back to the garage who did the work and get them to check it out.  A failing roller/pulley on the cambelt could be bad news if left unchecked.

Loss of PAS isn't too bad, just moving the steering wheel at slow speeds becomes a challenge.  I lost mine in the middle of Salisbury when the alternator pulley broke off.

I would ask them to have a look, but I'm not very near the garage that did the work at the moment. Maybe it would still be worth a phone call.
