Welcome,

Ian (tavia 4x4) has had his 4x4 chipped by jabbasport near peterborough to around the 220'ish bhp mark. I think he paid about

Welcome to the board.

Various different chips that you can go for. The 3 most common on here are Jabbasport (in or near Peterborough), APR and Superchips. Jabba seems to give the most power and is mapped to your individual car. Think its about

Jon,

We both posted at the same time. hahahaha

Ect,

Welcome to Briskoda!

Ian and I have a "modified" 4x4 and DGW aka Denis has a stock, in terms of performance, so welcome to the dark side of Briskoda owners.

re exhausts:

I have spoke to Hayward about a new system, but they don't have any plans so it would be a custom job for whoever gets there first. I have also asked an agent to talk to miltek and if there were demand might produce units.

Re chips:

Jabba is very good. Having driven Ian's (Jabba) it feels different from mine somehow. I have the APR (soon to be called somthing different  ).

The APR chip offers an optimax program (optimised for the optimax fuel) which offers about the same power as Ian's with a touch more torque. In a straight line we are both very very close. I wanted cruise so got it added at the same time as the chip and I'm very happy. I have most options on the APR chip due to being in the right place at the right time. But the advantage to me is the switching mode. I can put it into stock for lending/dealers, 95 performance for when I run out of optimax stations and of course optimax when I find it. But I do not switch it as much as I thought I might!

Re Dump valves:

Going from other VAG owners, eg US owners these seem to be either a godsend or cursed, the last few feelings on these from the US was that the stock was as good as it needed to be, although who knows for real.

Tubing, I was looking at a few under the hood tubing replacements from ABD (see awesome-gti link.) just to make everything a little smoother.

Suspension...roll out the soapbox:

Did you get the 4x4 for performance or practical reasons? Mine were a hybrid, I will drop the car at one point, but not to the lowest, i.e. I'l keep the ride height of the normal octavia's, but follow Jon's tips on springs etc. I am meant to be an outdoor's type and thus maybe find the odd track/field I have to cross thus the height helps alot. The extra height of course helps if your a back roads man, I have only cliped the undertray twice now, once from a very soft verge and the other from a dip in the road. Both on a lower ride might of been painfull, then again I wouldn't of gone to the verge or taken the dip slower :D .

The ride is the only remaining odd thing with the car for me when pushing on. However compared to my last car (Primera GT) it's very soft (body movement from seats and shell)) Although I am able to push on alot quicker in this car due to the drive chain/power setup . They look a bit wobbly from the outside when following, inside as a driver they feel great, any passengers feels what you see outside, I have been found lurking on a few seat vendor sites...

I hope that helps and of course if your ever in thea area your more than welcome to hop in and experince the modified drive. Suffice to say it should be done if you want RS performance, Ian's really sold the 4x4 to me once I caught my breath.

And I would do some of the basic brake mods early on, the extra power on stock brakes is a bit hairy, even on DS2500 fronts I still feel a little weak in the braking area.

Hope to see you soon.

thanx for reply colinD. to answer your question, i wanted a car with some performance yet able to carry my family in comfort & the octavia certainly does the job.

btw i have bought a SUPERSPRINT backbox(boxer style) sounds great & made to a very high standard. fitted it myself in about 30 mins. a bit pricey at

Ect,

You will probably find that the Milltek downpipe and cat replacement will match up with the Supersprint rear box that you have, albeit with a few subtle mods, assuming its just a back box, not a full cat back system. If its cat back, it'll need less modification to make it fit. You'll then gain about 10-15 bhp and 25ish lb/ft torque.

Colin,

did your dealer change your fluid? If not, it probably needs bleeding. It would seem that without the proper tools its a b1tch to do as some air (even if its only a small amount) will get into one of the many ABS chambers, which will lead to spongyness.

Very similar to Ian then (Tavia4x4). I do not have the luxury of kiddies yet. I just have 100kg's of climbing gear

The main thing for me about getting around in the octavia is that it blends in, so you can choose your moments to make pace or potter without the hassle one might attract from an out and out performance marque.

The single biggest problem on the road though is other drivers not realising you have a little bit more poke than alot of them so you get a few tailgaters  and of course with uprated brakes thats going to create a mess one day  . The advantage is driven home on A roads when you can really get past things with minimal exposure to danger, should you need to of course :driving: .

I find it easy to forget the performance and capabilities of the 4x4, untill you come accross other traffic, that really brings a smile to my face.

Jon awesome changed it, but I think there might be air as it was a bloody cold day and he was a bit rushed.

There have been a few odd moments, very similar in fact to what Ian has described. I am still trying to decide if it's fluid, air, terrain, imagination.

I need to change the oil soon anyway (making an effort for every 5k since it does a lot of town work and when it's not doing town work it's hard driving.) So I might get them do do both.

Hi

Well everyone knows my opinion and car so have said most things I would say.... :) (it's all very cosy in here.. lol)

I used Jabbasport for the remap, ferodo and castrol to sort the brakes, all happy apart from the "sponginess" I have a little of.

The Jabba remap cost me
