Merry Xmas,

Featured Replies

I have just aquired my 2nd Skoda, a Felicia GLi, it passed its MOT on Monday having stood for the last couple of months. I last drove one of these in Spain some 15 years ago as a hire car and remember liking it then so when my sister in law offered me this one it was a very swift YES please. They are like a better made Polo 6n2. It has done a paltry 33,000 miles and I can't see any rust either on the body or underneath, interior is clean and dry, only fault is the radio having given up the ghost but a more modern one will be swapped from my wifes Focus when that car is sold. The car has an upper strut brace but surprisingly to me nothing underneath, as an anti roll bar, can anyone advise me on this, as it does seem the wrong way around, is it possible to fit a lower arb. Picture to follow

Hello and welcome, merry Christmas to you..

the strut brace is a factory fitted item on a felicia, it seems to be a bit random as to which models did or did not get them. the lower anti roll bar is factory fitted on the 1.6 and diesel models as standard but again it was a bit random as to which of the 1.3 models got them as well, it is possible to retro-fit a front arb but you may need to swap the track control arms for the ones with the extra mounting hole for the roll bar link, again it's totally random it seems wether or not they have them fitted as there are 2 types but they will interchange easily.

Many thanks, there are a couple of holes in the lower wishbone which may or may not correspond to arb fitting, but from what you are saying in principle its do-able. I have had some experience retro fitting an arb to a mk1 Golf but it was a fiddly process rather than technically difficult, are the arbs on the 1.6 petrol and the 1.9 diesel the same or is the diesels thicker for the weight/

thanks again

All the hatchback and estate models both petrol and diesel have a 20mm roll bar, only the pickup/cube van got the 22mm version, they are a direct fit as they have exactly the same suspension setup throughout the model range.. Based on my practical experience I wouldn't bother going for a 22mm version, it makes it a bit understeer happy in the wet, whereas the 20mm version gives a bit more pliance and makes it more driveable.
