I find most new cars have a lot of orange peel. Some colours just hide it better than others. It'll probably be down to Skoda (and most other manufacturers) putting stuff in the paint mixture to make the paint dry pretty much as soon as it touches the car to speed up production.

Get some 2000 W&D then some polish on it ;)

I sort of see what you mean, there is a slight uneveness when viewed at an angle especially against some straight edges, but wouldn't go as far as calling it orange peel !

Well it did have the wrong number plate on when I picked it up! So you could be right.

Well thats what it's called, no matter how slight.

having worked in a car body shop and sprayed hundreds of cars that was my instant reaction too, but everybody else thinks it's normal... Perhaps it's normal for them to get damaged in transit or on the production line, personally if I'd bought a new car and it came out the dealership looking like that I'd ask them if they were taking the **** and ask them what the punch line was.

Yeah! it looks very much like a car I had when re-sprayed. It's almost like you can see the polish marks where they have finished it off. It's not really an orange peel effect at all. If anything it's almost too glassy, as body shops seem rarely to be able to re create the very thing that mass produced cars have on paintwork which is ironically- 'Orange peel'

Sorry for your damage. But - in my own experience on similar tint (racing blue) - beemer paint is much, much, much (did I say much?) worse.

The tiny, individual, paint imperfections look like they are placed at a 'slant', orange peel is fairly uniform and symmetrical in appearance (in my opinion!).

Paint overall is pretty good - just needs correcting to remove the dealer inflicted swirls no doubt from automated car washing.

My Octavia FL has always had orange peel on rear quarter panels . Shows up more on darker colours. Lived with it but we should expect better. Only way to fix is to have car detailed. That was my original plan, but due to 2 warranty issues that took 12 months in total to resolve, it never got done. Getting a 62 reg FL VRS CR DSG hatch 2400 miles soon, then detailing to follow asap.

 

Quoted £200 for paintwork only. Have spent many hours on detailing websites, to research swirls / orange peel issues etc. If orange peel really bad, then wet sanding is only option. It depends if you want a show car finish.

Most cars have orange peel nowadays, even expensive metal.

My Dad had a £55k Boxster S not so long ago and he said the paintwork on that was terrible and about the worst hes seen, particularly given what the car cost. Has an M135i now and thats not particularly great either.

Believe the move to water based eco friendly paints is largely to blame, also production cost savings have to come from somewhere. The phrase "they dont make em like they used to" springs to mind!
