Black grille

Featured Replies

I am wondering if to buy one of the black grills for my silver vrs http://www.superskoda.com/skoda/octavia-ii/04-08/ has anyone bought one of these grills for there car and if they are well made.

I had mine wrapped in black, that's the better option IMO

I sprayed mine with black plastidip (cost just over £10) looks perfect (even after being done for a couple of months). Spraying it on is much easier than wrapping and it can still be removed easily. Upon visiting the dealer a few days ago he even commented how nice the grill looked.

Plasti dip is probably easier to do but I think from experience of having plasti dipped other stuff a wrap would look better.

Painted mine

Mine looks perfect. Up until I had actually plasti dipped mine myself I would have agreed with you, wrapping is normally better. However the stuff I got from http://www.cardipuk.com/ was great. The finish is flawless and looks like it could have produced like this from the factory (not too shiny and not too matt either). However if you do but from these guys just be aware their customer service is pants - in fact they do not have any customer service. It just a good job their kit is so good.

Cheers for the reply's I have thought about painting it myself or getting it wrapped but I don't want to have a go at removing the grill until I can get some heat on the clips, Don't fancy trying at the moment with the plastic being brittle and snapping them off.

Have always loved black grills and have bought one religiously for my last couple of cars (BMW's) and have been put off by the high cost of the superskoda item as the previous ones i have got from eBay for around £30. Cheapest option is this http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/274394-octavia-black-front-grill/ I have just bought a can but due to awful weather have not sprayed mine up yet... search ebay for plastidip, and then search you tube on how to spray it on, looks very easy and can be peeled off.

Lots of folks seem to admire the chrome sprayed to colour match the car but would be expensive from the dealer or look rubbish if you try and rely on a halfords rattle can.

Or you could just buy this which I very nearly did http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111242802615?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

But I cant justify spending that much on a grille.

Also, you can spray up the grille without removing it as per a different thread which i cannot be bothered to find

if you plasti dip you could do it without removing the grill / grill surround.

Doesn't look too bad for a 20 quid ' halfords rattle can ' diy job I think...

I quite fancy one of those 'honeycomb' grilles instead of the vertical bars (which, to my eyes, tend to look slightly American - not in a good way). But all the honeycomb grilles I've seen pictures of seem to have a very 'open' mesh pattern. Are there any alternatives, does anyone know, please?
