retrofit instrument cluster

Apparently it's this:

I think there is more than one. There is a pre-2006 and a post-2006 version certainly.

Typical cars, always more complicated than you think, i know that my brother has had to change controllers from low line, medium and highline.

I would say there are a group of part numbers.  The '4' in the 8th digit is what dictates the full screen display.  Same as other vag models.

Recoding highline clocks into MK4 and MK5 golfs is a doddle.  The SKC is the secret keycode used for login into the clocks to allow adaption and immo recoding.

Regarding the MFD1 installation.  I've heard on a couple of occasions that the MFD1 is not necessary.  I would hazard a guess that the clocks need the Gala signal or have a feed from the ABS controller fed through to the clocks from a sat nav unit and this might be what's causing speed signal issues.

Fuel signal as far as I'm aware can be fixed by fitting a later model sender unit.

Why don't we get a list of information together from cars which already have the units fitted?  ABS controller part numbers, ecu part numbers, and cluster part numbers with soft coding as well.  I'll try and dig up the wiring information to see if I can find out if something may be different with these installed.

I think the availability of the clocks is also another issue.

When I enquired about it, Skoda said that they could order a dashpod in from the Czech Republic, but it would be around £450, require payment up front and would not be guaranteed to work in any shape or form.

I think the only realistic way of retrofitting and it all working properly is for someone who has an original fit sat nav in a Fabia (only one I know of on the forum) and to go through and compare part numbers.

They changed the clocks when the engine changed from ASZ to BLT, and who knows what other bits that changed behind the dash.

I read in a poorly-translated guise that it has been done in Czech and has been documented, but I can't find anything to do with it now.

If you can speak Czech, you may find more info on: http://forum.skodahome.cz/

Lets face it.  Most of us will never see a maxidot set of clocks but it would still be awesome to know that they could be made to work if we ever did happen to find a set.
