Bulb failure warning

Featured Replies

Hi all.  Is it possible to turn off the 'bulb failure' warning system? On a 2013 Yeti SE+

Although it's nice to have, I don't want it.

Why? Would you rather drive around with a light or lights out and attract the attention of Mr plod.

It's only going to alert you when a lamps out so hardly in your face, just can't see why you wouldn't want it.

It is there for a very good purpose; to tell you a bulb is not working.

Perhaps you need to explain in detail why something that is a safety matter annoys you?

Fitted non-CANBUS LED's by any chance?

Have not as yet fitted LED's. Just that I plan to add marker lights to rear of car.

I can get around the system by running separate circuits but, would need to lift carpets and remove interior trim (just being lazy).

I visually check my lights and tyres etc everyday & most times when returning to the car in a car park.

I also carry a full set of replacement bulbs in the boot, as on the rare occasion 1 blows while out, I change the bulb there and then.

If Mr Plod wishes to talk to me, go ahead. Even their cars blow bulbs during their days work.

Warning lights are now part of the MOT. Not sure if this particular warning light is covered during the check but it might be worth finding out?

Forgive my bluntness but why do you feel the need to add marker lights?

Doesn't this involves drilling holes in the bodywork or trim?

Not convinced the bulb failure system works correctly anyway. My Superb shows faults (not regularly enough to take it back to the dealer though) and when I check there's nothing wrong. Sometimes can be just a loose bulb.

My point is is makes me check, last thing I want is to be driving around with bulbs out because, let's face it, who checks regularly these days?

Thingy does, daily! :hi:

Because the bulb failure system is considered a safety feature, it is not possible to disable or code out in just the same way you cannot code out ABS or airbags.

Thanks all for the polite replies. I'll just run separate circuits, I just have to work out where to put switches for them.

I put the extra lights to ensure I'm seen. The reflectors in them are great when parked at night. Often told my cars look like Christmas trees.

And yes, I do have to drill holes for the cables and screws.

Only 33 days till I get my Yeti, soon be counting the hours.
