Air bag warning warning light

Featured Replies

I have my car tested a few days ago and with one or two issues that today a have been done ,the airbag light is still on the garage gave me a number to get it sorted typically he is closed for the jollys and i need it fixing quick ( tax on wednesday ) it is supposed to be getting a scan tomorrow after a frantic dash around .so what could go wrong or the worst result !

The plugs under the seats are the most common issue on the MKII, but without a scan it could be anywhere.

Where are you located at will

Durham ,oddly enough i lost a mobile phone and it came on around the same time i was raking about under the seat i did check the connections under the seats but are secure i'm guessing  they a the yellow ones .....

Yes the airbags have yellow plugs on them.

Even after you have fixed the fault, it will require someone with VCDS or a dealer to erase the fault code and clear the light. Airbag faults are one of the few that do not go away without intervention.

Search the VCDS members list and ask someone near you very nicely to do a scan / reset the fault. The information you have been given so far is all correct, the yellow plugs under the seats are well known areas that give trouble and bring on the airbag light. However this needs to be confirmed with a scan before any action is taken. If these plugs are giving trouble then the TSB can be applied.

The post above on a different forum is very informative and should provide a fuller picture of the yellow connector issue and its fix.

Hope this helps

Have a look at post 5 (Gizmo68) In his signature block there is a link to the VCDS owners map. Just select someone near you from that and then send them a PM and ask if they are able to do a scan for you.

It might be worth having a look at the wiring where it plugs in at the A post from the drivers door.  There is a sensor in the door and I've known a wire for it to break close to the yellow plug.

Had a scan today left passenger side air bag he had look and traced the cable but found nothing the light did go out and hopefully will stay out so if the garage had plugged the vcds as they said they were going to maybe would of saved me the trouble and another £50  cheers

I would suggest that if it has happened once then in all likelyhood it will happen again. Does it still have the original connectors under the seat. If so then the TSB will need to be carried out. Hope it holds out until you get sorted out.

There are the plugs you can see under the seat and another set under the carpet just in front of the seat rails. The official fix removes both plugs on each side.

Hope it holds out until you get sorted out.........He did say if it comes back on before the re-test thursday bring it in he will re plug and clear  then i can get a test cert he did mention he has rewired as in the link you posted the good news he tested my egr valve and it's goosed but i was told it was the ignition wiring loom

Well you will just have to wait and see, if it happens again please post up the scan results as this will point us in the right direction in order to help you.

The scan read " side airbag ignitor pass side n200, 01218 "  what ever that means he wrote it down so if it comes on again he can investigate

Well that says it is the passenger seat airbag that was the source.

Agreed. I had to redo one on a Passat a dealer had done as the quality of the workmanship was quite poor. Hopefully if this has been done then you shouldn't have any further problems relating to those pesky connectors. :whew:

The dealer redid all the joints on mine after they had done it the first time as I kept getting sporadic errors on the drivers seat airbag.

I am in no way surprised by the dealer having to redo this TSB, some just don't do it correctly.

I took them 3 attempts to finally fix it. Complicated by a complete inability to read the job card.
