Key Part Number

Featured Replies

Good All

I have just bought for the wife, which we are very very pleased with, a 07 plate Roomster3, but it only came with one key! I plan to get a spare one off eBAY. But does any one out there know the part number for a 3 BUTTON FLIP KEY??

Many thanks

Steve

Steve, I think you will need the key programming as it has an immobiliser chip in there, looks like a big grain of rice if you pull the key you have apart you will see it, this is what needs programming in your new key, most ebay keys do not have the chip in there so be careful what you buy.

I replaced my Golf keys for new ones and transferred the chips from my old keys.

Thanks for your reply.

I know that the key needs to reprogramed and cut. but I will look out and confirm the replacement key contains the chip.

you should be able to get the part number off your original remote. It will be printed on the case

if you're remote separates like this to change the battery then you will see the part number on the case. On the reverse of the case with battery attached to it

if it doesn't separate like that & it's the newer style then the part number is printed in the recess where the blade folds into, which i very much doubt it will be as that remote is listed for 2011 onwards Roomster with my key suppliers

To make a totally new complete key DIY style..............you need to do the following

1. Blank key blade, ebay ones can be soft so best get from reputable key cutting service & get them to cut it.

2. Blank immobilizer transponder, this you can get from ebay but need VCDS to reprogram it with the correct codes to match your car. You also need to have your cars correct codes.

3. Complete new remote housing, transponder housing, remote PCB ..this again from ebay.

The keys part no. & frequency are printed on the case (might have to separate it like earlier ones) or it might be printed on the side where the flip blade hides.

You can also get parts (transponders, housings, pcbs) from this seller on ebay who is based in Devon & has been used by many members of Briskoda over the years. He also provides good info & service & comes out to areas near Torquay.

More details in this old thread in Fabia MKI section.

If however you don't like DIY a good auto locksmith who can supply & cut & reprogram the whole thing in one go...............like the above poster... :)

just to add you need more than VCDS to program the transponder side of things. You need the pin code(SKC) to program transponders & VCDS doesn't read pin codes so you need yet another bit of equipment such as VAGTACHO.

Also a 2007 Roomster uses a CANBUS ID48 TP24 transponder so there's a good chance that it has the newer pre-coded system in which case even if you have a £15 Ebay VAGTACHO cable for reading the SKC you still won't be able to program the transponder as it will need pre-coding with the Component Security data, also known as 7 bytes of data. This is also known as making a dealer key.

There isn't any cheap clone cables on the market that can pre-code transponders with the Component Security data

If like me you have the original plastic security tags etc which came with the keys (sometimes on a plastic strip) and have all the numbers/pin codes (I have had my car since new) then you do not need to go and buy VAGTACHO................therefore I can reprogram a blank transponder for my car using VCDS.......

If however you do not have the original plastic tag/codes then you need to get someone who has the gear to read the codes.............

Simples!!!

Most people don't have the plastic strip or pin code. Also as I said above with the newer models you need more than the pin code. You also need the Component Security data which has never been given with any VAG car sold. It has to be read from the immobiliser.

So if you have a car that uses Component Security you can spend all day trying to program a blank transponder using VCDS & the pin code but it won't work because the transponder needs pre-coding & most 2007 VAG I've done keys for have used pre-coding.

Many thanks for your help and advice "actionman39"

Will my local Skoda dealer be able to program my key? - I have asked them before your kind info, and they do program keys. But can they get the info from either my car or a Skoda database??

Many thanks again

Steve
