Boot sill protector

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Currently contemplating getting a boot sill / protector for my Black vRS estate. Had it for 1 month now and the top of the rear bumper is already a little scuffed from the Baby's buggy being taken in/out.

At first glance a boot sill protector is a good idea but it was pointed out to me that these can't be removed without destroying the paintwork on your bumper. Therefore, all a sill does is change what get's scratched and you can't easily replace it with a new one when it get's too scratched. Therefore, the sill get's scratched or the bumper get's scratched. Either way, you have a scratch.

Any truth to this or is a boot sill protector still a good idea?

  • Good find - this is the sort of thing that is more up my street as it can be replaced. For £5, definitely worth a shot.   Thanks for this.   Edit:.....and bought one.

It's just sticks on with adhesive doesn't it? If so it should be possible to remove it without damage...

They used to do a clear film for the mkII which I had on mine and that was great, protected the paint and you could barely see it was there, hoping they may do one for the mkIII sometime soon.....

Clear film would be awesome but my dealer says no such thing for the O3

I was thinking of getting one of these which should (hopefully) peel off. Not sure if the VRS bumper is different from the normal one though.

That's just like the one Skoda used to do for the mkII. I strongly suspect atleast that area of bumper is the same on all models. Might order one today....

THE CLEAR STICK ON ONE ON MY PARTNERS FABIA Vrs is FANTASTIC. 2 YEARS OF HARD ABUSE FROM HER BOARDER COLLIE AND NOT A MARK.

Transparent, so car colour visible and you can hardly see the join.

Not sure if this is now available but was a great buy.

I've also been waiting for this

Me too ,for my partners said Boarder Collie.

Would prefer a transparent thin version if possible.

Think it was £40 fitted on the Fabia.

Yes fitted an OEM 'sticky back plastic' protector to the previous Fabia. Good at protecting but it didn't fit to well, in that I got a little air trapped in it and a couple of slight crease lines.

Would still consider trying again with this ebay thing but still tempted by the proper Skoda bonded protector. Also if you get it fitted at first registration it's covered by the cars warranty like any other factory fitted part.

Yes I wanted it fitted before I collected it so it was covered by warranty. However I am not keen on anything other than the clear film one so the dealers ordered the solid version but held off installing it. Still awaiting a clear film one to be released by Skoda for the octy 3

Have a Look on Rhino UK boot liners their based Not far from Leicester and for a Little over £100 your car is protected.Apologies for not Putting the link up but i aint got a clue how to do it on an iPad. They are well worth a Look.

I bought some copter tape from justridingalong.co.uk they have some very wide approx 150mm which allows for the curve of the vrs bumper. It's clear and with some time and patience it works really well and is almost invisible. Not sure how much it is as a friend runs the place.

The problem is because of the curve even the wider piece won't cover the whole of the top but I have got it to cover to just before it starts curving up towards the lights.

It's been great for the dog jumping in too as its slightly soft so he doesn't slip causing more scratches.

Hi.

Being a two dog owner, I too was concerned about paws scratching the paint on my soon to be collected vRS tdi 184 Estate so I had a chat with the spares guys at the dealership I'm buying the car from.

He responded with a cheery "no problem, give me two days", two days later it had been delivered and fitted, it's a black plastic one. I have yet to see it (collect the car Monday) but will post pic if needed. He assures me it's specific for the Mk3 and he said it retails at about £85 although I think they're losing the charge to me somewhere.

As for removal, they are typically held on with 3M or similar double sided tape and can be removed without damaging paint as long as you go careful, in the past I have had success in doing this by gently lifting an edge and dowsing the tape with hot water, that softens the adhesive and allows you to carefully tease it away.

Agree with you Lady, clear is best= the thin film Skoda product is fine and fitted by dealer. Forgot too say I also had it fitted to my old MK2 vrs Octavia and it was great .

As previously mentioned it was fitted to partners Fabia vRS  for same reason -Collie protection

I will protect the rear bumper on my new RS (when Skoda is willing to deliver) with a selfdesigned vinyl wrap foil, cut with my plotter. I already made doorsill with

3M Dynoc carbon, also logo's, emblems etc.

Come on Skoda UK get your finger out and satisfy dealer fitted options market. should have been able to forecast likely demand from previous history!!

Thanks for that.

Why don't you get into dealership and make a template for hatch/estate Mk3?

I wait for the RS I'm not in a hurry, the first template attempt I cut is never the one to be finaly used

it takes some time to design, and a little bit perfectionist.
