Boot sill protector

Featured Replies

I wait for the RS I'm not in a hurry, the first template attempt I cut is never the one to be finaly used

it takes some time to design, and a little bit perfectionist.

Nothing wrong with that.

There is a market there which Skoda are not satisfying, if you read this thread- make a few Euros?

  • Good find - this is the sort of thing that is more up my street as it can be replaced. For £5, definitely worth a shot.   Thanks for this.   Edit:.....and bought one.

  • Will do - review in due course

Note! most punters are looking for transparent/hardwareing, not logo K.I.S.S. So it's just a good coverage / fit.

Me thinks.

Hmmm, doesn't really cover much....

Minimalist is the word!

Should be fine. My concern is that it's nice glossy black finish will get screwed in no time, looks like I need a protector for my protector!

Def no good for me. The hell hounds claws will just scratch either side of the protector lol. Evil gits.

I'll try to take some photos of what I did for you lady, be later in the week.

Cheers look forward to it

Looking at the Rearguards site it says it's for the Octavia IV (which we know as the III) five-door. The Mark IV "Combi" isn't mentioned, so I guess the answer is that the Estate isn't yet covered in their range, though I fancy it's only a matter of time.

Yes I wanted it fitted before I collected it so it was covered by warranty. However I am not keen on anything other than the clear film one so the dealers ordered the solid version but held off installing it. Still awaiting a clear film one to be released by Skoda for the octy 3

Come on Skoda Parts operation , get your arse in gear and produce another clear stick-on guard.

Works perfectly on Fabia vrs and Octavia vrs mk2 of two years of animal abuse and domestic stuff - if it works why change it.

Recommend dealer  fits this item though.

Why? I fitted mine and it was perfect, wouldn't have been better if it was done at the factory and to be honest i wouldn't trust a dealer with this or waste money paying them to do it.

Not everybody has your skill with air bubble removal or avoiding creasing.

Plenty of soapy water is all that's needed.

Aces. Thanks. I would have never thought to do this.

I will use this method when my clear one arrives from Germany....should be any day now.

No problem, when I got my OE one from Skoda for my mkII that how the instructions said to apply it, works a treat, no bubbles or creases at all.

I suspect with the one you've ordered being German it'll come with proper instructions telling you to use soapy water......

ok so as promised the 'copter tape clear which I bought from justridingalong.co.uk Jon does two widths and this was the wider one. I hope it shows up ok. As I mentioned in my original post the wider tape is needed due to the curve of the bumper. So far it's survived bikes, golf clubs, kids, the dog, the brother in law putting his work boots on it to fasten them (grrrrr) and yes the car needs cleaning but its a real family car and I love driving it rather than cleaning it!

That's just what I want, is it just a straight rectangular piece or did you have to cut it it fit?

It was a straight rectangular piece which I laid on, ran my thumb nail along the contour just under the boot lid seal to get a rough shape. Cut it to length, Cut the basic curve (nearest the boot) out with scissors then took my time fitting it with a clean cloth and a firm thumb nail to get any bubbles out. Once it was on I tidied the back edge up with a scalpel taking care to make sure I didn't cut into the paint but also so that I got the edge just flush with the edge of the bumper top. This was the hardest part to be honest as I didn't want it over the edge of the bumper as it would curl up quickly but I didn't want it too far in from the edge either as that would defeat the point of the whole exercise! In all took about forty minutes of patience.

Think I'll wait for the OEM version too turn up , as the last one was just fine.

Think I might chase up Skoda UK too progress or at least find out their supplier.

I just been on the rear guard website and it does list the combi mark iv onwards, BUT it does not fit VRS combi by the looks of it!

Get yourself down to your local Vinyl Graphics place and ask for strip of offcut clear vinyl (80 micron is what I used), cost me £2 and cut an fit it myself in about 15 minutes.

Used the Soapy water method and an old pencil erasor to rub it down and get air bubbles/water out.

Been on the car since I bought it as im a Golfer and getting clubs/trollies in an out terrorises the top of your bumper
