engine reving at idle

Featured Replies

As above engine revs up to 2000 rpm when warmed up then drops back down to an idle, have cleaned maf on advise of trev b but no look just give car blast come back and up the revs rise.

I dont want to replace things on a whim could it be 02 sensor ? or possibly a vacumn leak would really appreciate all comments cheers and a happy new year to you all.

Broken PCV but a scan would help

would the pcv cause the high revs at idle its only when engine upto temp

Yes but mostly uneven revs. Get a scan, I'm near Driffield if it helps.

Have the same problem. Got mine scanned by Skoda Oswestry. Best bit was they didn't charge me. One problem was that no fault code was found just that is was running lean.

Does it hunt at idle? I had this problem on my 06 hatch was a worn throttle control.

Doesn't show any faults and doesn't hunt just the raised revs, going to try a spare PVC block tomorrow see what the old ones like when removed, strange it's only when warm though

No seems to only do it when its fully warm its as thou temp sensor giving reading of a cold engine, changing pcv at trev b tomorrow its a way of eliminating cheap as trev has one i can try.

Trevor B33 changed pcv seems to have sorted the engine revving only early days but fingers crossed, there was a difference in numbers and the one off my car seemed to rattle very slightly. Cheers for comments and a big thumbs for trevor.

They crack inside and only the last letter of the part number should have changed.

Kidology how long did it take?

Only takes minutes, once the engine covers off that's the time consuming bit, the engine cover mounts tend to melt themselves together and are very tight to pull off

There is two versions N and P. Which do I go for?

Trevor B33 may be able to answer that question better, but as mine was runner with one number and changed to another and running ok i cant see it makes any difference but may be wrong. Also as trevor said take cover off about 3 pipes and half a dozen torx screws and you will be done.

Go for the latest revision there is they usually change them slightly so the last number denotes the revision so p newer then n, etc

Thanks shall get one ordered asap

Iirc the N revision is for if you do or don't have a rear check valve.

Search on here, there's a whole thread somewhere.

Thanks Martin. Is there a how to guide on changing the PCV? Or is there someone in the Oswestry/ Mid Wales area that has done it before?

Spoke to local dealership told they only sell the 'C' version as it doesn't show a new one on the system. Whereas TPS say I need 'N'. Is the gasket necessary or a waste of £15?

I changed the pcv on my 06 last year and the original gasket was perfectly fine so I re-used it, just be careful when you remove the old pcv.

Thanks Chris. I will ring TPS tommorow and see if they will post one out too me

Got my PCV today. Now do you guys recommend doing the gasket aswel?

I'd do the gasket as if you don't get it clean and seated correctly or you nick it, you'll end up spending a lot more than £15 of time cleaning up the oil leak.

Thanks Cheezemonkhai. What gets me is the price of it. Blooming expensive for what it is

No more than 1L of oil though, never mind your time cleaning it up :)
