New 2.0TDI has black oil after only a few hundred km's

Featured Replies

I purchased the 2014 Facelift Skoda Superb 2.0TDI, but I assume my question is for any car with a diesel engine.

After driving the new car only a few hundred km's I checked the dipstick, and the oil is black.  Is this normal in a diesel engine?

I read here, that one member's oil went black soon after an oil change, but is the same expected from a new car?

Thank you for your help

yup shurrre is       welcome to the wonderful world of oil burners

On a used car, after you put new engine oil in the top, its black by the time it has dribbled down to the sump. :D

I would imagine a new car's oil would turn black pretty damn quickly after being driven - probably by the time it has been driven around the little bumpy course at the Skoda factory in Czech.  ;)

Yes, this was what I found, glad it doesn't seem to be a defect.  Just wanted to see if it is indeed the "norm"

I was just about to start my own thread but found this.

I had my first variable service as 12,000 mile on my 2.0 tdi.  Drove home yesterday (12 miles) checked oil today and its black (not sludgy).

Was going to phone dealer tomorrow but looks like this is normal.

Was it black when the car was new as well?  This is what I am trying to find out...

Probably after about 5km. I wouldn't worry about it, it's just something that happens with a diesel.
