Why is this car so cheap?

Featured Replies

100% sure it was a Cat D.

They changed the advert recently - I was in the market for a new Yeti and saw this last week - I thought it was over priced for a Cat D.

I have been through the various legislations with a fine tooth comb and can find nothing that states that declaration of SORN automatically invalidates the tax disc. For example, if your insurance ran out and you didn't immediately insure it then you'd have to declare SORN to stay legal. However, if you subsequently decide to insure it again there's nothing that I can find that explicitly prevents you from simply using the tax disc you had at the time you declared SORN (assuming you didn't send it back for a refund) and just getting on with it. It might not agree with DVLA's interpretation of expectation, but as I said, nothing in legislation appears to prevent it.

I also could not find nothing specific on DVLA website in relation to termination mid month of a tax disc when SORN, although I can see it would make sense. Could it be that when a vehicle is sold when it is on a SORN, that the new owner must re tax the car again.

Why the seller in the OP article even stated that tax expires on 24th December though is quite beyond me, as it's hardly a selling point.

Only one key in the log book picture too, it's a no from me & I love a bargain!!

First thing i noticed was it only had a single Key as well.

Some very strangely cropped pictures of the interior there!

it would be in the vehicle excise and registrations act if anywhere, in the case of sending a tax disc for refund or taxing a vehicle the motorist always looses, ie; if you tax your car in the 15th it's dated from the 1st of that month so you loose a couple of weeks.. However I do recall reading somthing about nil value road fund licenses ( low emissions, disabled etc) where the date of the liability makes no difference because thus tax is free for that vehicle, when the car is subsequently re taxed as a non disabled driver the date of liability is from the exact date it was sorned or from the exact date the 'disc' was transferred to another car. I can't remember where I read it though, I would have to look it up.

Are we sure that date was typed correctly in the first place?  There are plenty of other typos in the same Autotrader ad.

Definitely a scam. There was one on Auto Trader for Volvo this w/e. Now removed.

Good to get confirmed my second guess was the right one then!

Is the seller not legally obliged to mention the CAT D?

Caveat Emptor?  Loosely translated as "If in doubt, an HPI check can be a very good idea!"

THREE points nobody has covered yet.

1.  It does NOT have a multimedia player as it's a Bolero system and does not play DVDs'  Therefore it can't be classed as 'multimedia'.

2.  If there IS a logbook loan out on the car then the seller will be unable to produce it at the time of inspection, and you should ALL be asking to view the V5.  It's mere absence should ring alarm bells in your head.

3.  An AA/RAC mechanical inspection is well worth considering if you're serious about buying, and the talk of this will send shivers down any conman/conwomans spine. (They don't have spines to begin with, but I'm simply using that as an expression.)

:D
