Rotary creek and high whistling noise in fabia vrs

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have a really annoying creek and high pitched squeeking noise when driving and it's intermittent on rotation.

Anyone know what this could be?

Cheers,

Ollie

Check your rear brake callipers, could be sticking.

Sorry forgot to say the noise is coming from front and sounds like it's on the drivers side

I had the same not long ago, it was a break pad

It was loud when rolling along at around 4-5mph

Hi Harry, did you just change the pads? It's weird it sounds like a bush creeking and only when braking lightly

Knock the raised edge off the disc and check the pads.  Sounds like pad squeal to me.

Yep, just the pads

I didn't think it was the pads either, somebody even told me to get my wheel bearing checked because of how it sounded, went to a mechanic and he confirmed straight away that it was one of the front pads

Did you copper grease the back of the pads or anything?

Harry - Ok I will look at replacing the pads and see what happens

bazmcc - Yeah copper greased before going in (on the ends)

Found a video of the same noise i'm getting, still haven't managed to solve it, the backplates (front disc shields) are off so it's not them either.

I had a similar noise on mine and it turned out to be a slightly warped brake disc. Changed the discs and pads and no more noise.

I highly recommend Pagid brake discs and pads from Euro Car Parts. Very good quality stuff and used as original equipment by some car manufacturers. There's currently a load of discount off them too.

How free are the sliders on the carriers and pads?  Just sounds simply like a stuck pad. or a raised edge on the disc.  Or even just a piece of grit stuck and rubbing against the disk.

Warped discs aren't something you get often on a normal road car.  I've seen uneven brake wear on dozens of discs which 'appears' to be warping but in reality it's just making the disc uneven.  The actual disc itself when measured to the bell in the middle is usually perfectly straight.  The only warped disc I've seen on a road car was a subaru which had been at a track day.  A warped disc is a very different thing and requires a serious amount of abuse to produce.  Discs are made from cast iron.  They don't warp as easy as people think.

That's probably what it was then. It's hard to explain but you know when you're slowing down at junctions and stuff and you press the brake and the car sort of slows down in regular lurches? That's what mine was doing.

The discs and pads are less than 6 months old. Ran in 400 miles before hard braking, the disc didn't appear to be warped when I ran the car up without the wheel on. I may take the brakes apart clean them, then put them back in.

I took it to a vw specialist and even they couldn't solve the problem
