PD160 Intake

Featured Replies

Are these worth getting/installing if they can be picked up for about £50?

There is a billion threads on it mate seriously do a search.

Short answer no, unless hybrid big turbo power.

No

I'm seriously thinking of selling mine as all I see is about £50-60 when I look at it. I didn't notice any difference when I fitted mine and I've never seen any real evidence to show it does make a difference. I personally would spend the money elsewhere

£50 or less yea. Anything more it wouldn't be worth it IMO.

No. One fitted on mine when I got it.

Doesn't do anything imo, bit like those panel air filters too.

All huff puff, smoke and mirrors.

Seriously considering selling mine and going down a cheaper route which will possibly be more effective.

Sell it on ebay, I sold mine for £98 posted

Same here I was gunna go back to a cone to make it easier to fit a cold air pipe to it

That's unreal!

must be something to them - wouldn't exist otherwise, surely?

We've been here before, the only reason we can come up with is either for homologation or for high altitude, that and underbonnet styling, it's a mystery really because fitting one does absolutely nothing other than lighten your wallet.

I was very pleased kyle

When the vRS first came out these were £40 from SEAT. Then someone cottoned on to the fact that they were a big seller and made the price a lot less appealing. My understanding (from 2006) was that there was no benefit on a standard car, there were marginal gains on a Stage 1 car and slightly more on Stage 2 or 3 cars.

Bottom line to me would be that it can't hurt, can it?

SEAT obviously saw a need for it with the 160 bhp Ibiza so isn't it safe to assume that it is a worthwhile mod at stage 1?

As above, stock car it's pointless. Just a simple remap would help a little in certain conditions, arguably still not worth the £100 at that point. Past that, running larger turbos etc I'd say it's worth the outlay if you want a subtle OEM upgrade.

If this was a £20 mod I don't think anyone would care if it made a difference but when your paying between £50-125 for one its alot of money for something that doesn't seem to do anything. When you compare it to a rarb for example for similar money which does make a ddifference to the feel a pd160 does feel like a waste of money when it doesn't change the sound, feel and to be honest it's only the skoda/vag boys that would probably be able to look and know it's a pd160. It's not like it looks nice like a fancy bmc cda set up like jase had on his so there my reasons for not recommending them

As wja correctly points out fitting this mod won't do any harm so I've no objection on engineering grounds, it's your money, just don't kid yourself it makes any difference even with a performance remap.

The standard item is quite capable of flowing enough air even at 200+ bhp, CSA calculations suggest that it might start to slightly restrict the intake at about 220 bhp but a poorly designed aftermarket intercooler will restrict it far more.

Thats part of the attraction, it doesnt look modified nice and subtle.

It is a subtle modification but as said it's expensive for little to no gains. I personally think my strut brace does nothing but at least if I open the bonnet it looks good there. Suppose it depends what people.want from their cars really

But as me and others have said, standard/remap there is little point to it so yes, little or no gains therefore I'd agree dont buy it. Further along the line for someone with a hybrid or larger turbo that wants/needs a larger air intake that is subtle it'd be a worthwhile buy. If you have no plans to go that far, sell it and make yourself some monies!
