Water Leak

Featured Replies

Thanks for all the responses, good idea regarding the dehumidification/moisture absorbing bags, I didn't think of that, I'm going to get a couple this afternoon.

I'll be driving with the air-con on (it's set to automatic anyway) to 'dehumidify' but with recirc. off as at this time of year the 'moisture content' of the outside air is low, another words very dry and this will assist in drying out the vehicle.

Kind regards,

Mike

i had a seal leak in my BMW z3 roadster so I feel your pain ........

the best way to get it back to normal is get as much as you can via towels and the like . then get some of those dehumidifiers   not electronic ones the ones you use bags of beads to soak it up ......

put them in the car and it will amaze you how much they pick up ....

also when in the car run you heater at full as much as you can , but also have your air conditioning on recirculate  also . the air-con on when using heat it actually dries the air for you .........

Always remember the "pots" of crystals are there and either remove them each journey or fix them in place. They make a nasty, sticky mess if you forget and make a hasty stop. :@

Well after 4 days of communication and videos and all sorts Skoda Technical decided that the sunroof tray needed replacing as this was the cause of the leak and the parts were ordered on the Friday the tray arrived the following Wednesday but no fitting kit, this turned up eventually on the Friday at 16.00 after being delivered to a Seat garage  so work was to commence the following Monday. I was given a call on the Wednesday to say the work was complete but could I wait till Thursday as they wanted to give it a full valet. so in eager anticipation I went in on Thursday and it was there all gleaming, not only that but it now had a nice new Yeti keyring:

It was with great pleasure I handed the keys back to the Fabia and set off in the yeti taking the long way home. This morning I got in the car to go to work and thought I would check under the mat and yes the leak is still there, I checked the headlining and the headlining just above the A pillar trim was again soaked. So nearly three weeks without the Yeti I am now back where I started with the car booked in for Monday. I have been on the phone to Skoda customer relations and opened a case as I am starting to get a bit fed up.

....... I am starting to get a bit fed up.

Understandable! :wonder:

(or has it got to :@ yet?!)

I too have owned a 2009 Skoda Yeti with a panoramic sunroof which I bought new in December 2009. After going to Scotland for the New Year and a night of torrential rain I opened the door in the morning to find that the rubber floor mats in the front and rear drivers side foot wells were about 1 inch under water. I tried to start the car but the battery was almost flat and wouldn't start the engine which was weird as this had never happened before. I managed to jump start the car and soaked up all the water but then noticed that the bluetooth for the phone no longer worked.

I took the car to the supplying dealer to find the fault who told me that they had had a few Yetis in due to water leaks with the fault found to be due to leaking sunroofs and Skoda had now done a modification as the roof drains were not large enough to cope with the British weather! The modification also means re-routing the new drain tubes to a different outlet and not the existing ones near the front door hinges

After a couple of days the dealer reported back that the bluetooth unit which is located under the drivers seat has been destroyed due to being under water and needed to be replaced and all the underlay has also got to be replaced as it was rotten due to the fact that it had been soaking for some time but not been spotted due to being so thick and under the carpet and rubber mats. As a "goodwill gesture" Skoda have offered to pay 20% towards the bill which the dealer has estimated I will have to pay £1300 due to being a huge job. After going to the dealer I find that my car has been gutted inside with no seats in and all the carpets and underlay taken out with the entire floor exposed down to the painted metal and they also say that the roof lining has also got to be removed so that the modified tubes can be fitted.

I understand that my dealer, Claybank Skoda, who has been fantastic to deal with ever since I bought the car, has now got a lot of work to do but the 20% goodwill gesture is pathetic due to the fact that this fault should never have happened and is due to a design flaw which was rectified in later models.

I have now told the dealer that I am extremely unhappy with the 20% gesture and am now waiting for a reply from Skoda.

The Yeti has been a brilliant car so far with a good four wheel drive system which I need and up until this I would gladly replace it with a new one.

I have test driven a Kia Sportage with all the bells and whistles (and plastic) but I much prefer my Yeti.

But that 7 year warranty is beginning to look very appealing.

all covered by warranty as the car is 9 months old.

Sorry but on a 10 month old car then surely the best way to get it back to how it should be .... bone dry, is to throw it back to the dealer and get them to finish the warranty repair off!!

Well the saga continues, having got the car back on the 21st Feb after two months of in and out of the dealers I was told all was sorted, August bank holiday we had torrential rain for two days and when I went to drive to work I noticed the roof by the "A" pillar was wet once again. I phoned Skoda customer care and this time emailed Alasdair Stewart(Skoda ceo), the next morning I had a call from the Skoda executive who had been handed my case. The car was booked in the dealers and 9 days later it was returned all shiny and clean and I was assured the problem had been fixed with the garage liaising with Skoda technical, even though they had managed to damage the rubber seal on the bottom of the black trim on the passenger side at the bottom of the "A" pillar where it meets the wing. The next day we have a thunder storm and it rains for about 1 1/2 hours then the sun comes out so I pop up to get something from the motor and there is water dripping down the inside to the front of the drivers door where the two bits of trim meet, coming from behind the upper trim, an hour after I had found the leak I had a follow up call from the Skoda Executive to make sure all was ok so that was handy and the car is booked back in next Monday for more water testing. After the latest "fix" the problem seems worse than before as in the past it only leaked after sustained periods of heavy rain.

I had something similar on my Roomster. It turned out to be a section of the windscreen bonding/sealing that was missing. Windscreen was removed resealed and refitted then all was ok. It did however take 4 visits to the dealer before it was fixed. Shortly after it was fixed I got a call from the dealer to say that SUK had issued a recall on my car for water leakage!

Well it's been back in and between the dealer and Skoda technical they can't find the leak. I'm waiting for an update.

My Yeti went into the garage on Tuesday for a water leak from the sun roof, as the small carpet I had placed over the rubber mat had absorbed all the water.

This saved the carpet under the rubber mat, the water was dripping down through the fuse box and down the inside trim. This was all due to the constant rain over the weekend.

I must say my local Skoda dealer 'Faintree of Telford' had the car in right away,   they phoned me today to say they have to order a part, so I won't get the car back until next week.

So I told them as long as they make a good job of the problem, they can keep it as long as they like.   (retired) so why rush them. so back to the MG roadster for a few days with the top down

and if you want to get wet this is the car to drive.

I must say I did have my doubts  when I placed the order for the car if I should have had a sun roof fitted.  My last car was a 1990 Ford sierra with a sun roof never leaked, but I still love my white Yeti.

Wonderful garage Faintree.

Well got my Yeti back today, 'Faintree' had phoned me last Friday to say that the parts would arrive Saturday , got a phone call Monday lunch time said the car is all OK, the new part has been fitted

and ready for collection.

Time 9.30pm heavy rain I hope when I go out it check the car out in the morning there will be water in the car.

Very good service from 'Faintree of Telford'
