1 week to go - just saying hi...

Featured Replies

Hello - I thought it'd be a good plan to say hello (what with all the reminders to do so). I have a shiny grey 1.9TDi Fabia Elegance Estate on its way, which I'm hoping will prove a fine replacement for my 9 year old Rover 214si. It should, apparently, arrive in a week or so. From a quick lurk I gather that within a month or so I should be getting about 400bhp and torque to embarass a Tatra 813...

In case anyone wants to know anything about me, here's a condensed bio... Born the son of a Viennese diplomat and a Japanese punk rocker (which was which has been lost to the mists of time), I was orphaned at an early age when my parents' zeppelin was attacked by a gang of air-bucaneers.

Somehow I survived the fall and was raised by a warren of warrior rabbits; they were experts in the martial use of the Japanese Fighting Spork and brought me up as one of their own (with slight dietary shifts). By the age of 15 I had become the world champion spork-fighter, and six months later tracked down the gang that had killed my parents and exacted my titanium-bladed revenge.

Still, enough about me. One quick question; anyone know if the Fabia CD player can be easily replaced with an alternative, only I'd quite like to hook up my MP3 jukebox so that I can while away my 40-mile journey to work listening to my favourite Bavarian nose-flute death-polka...

:)

hi and welcome :wavey:

Welcome to Briskoda. :)

nice intro and hello :)

Welcome.

You can change the head unit the car comes with with your regular aftermarket one without any problems.

You may need a little blanking thing to fill a hole above the head unit, but this may only apply to fabia vrs so not yours.

Although the car comes with ISO connectors, you will most likely need to swap over the permanent and switched 12V feeds as VAG do it the other way round. No harm is done if you don't do it, but you may find you lose your radio presets when you pull the key out of the ignition ;) Talking of radio, if you want to listen to AM, you'll need an aerial booster as the OEM head unit has it built in.

Other than that, it's pretty straight forward.

Welcome again to Briskoda :)

Coolio - thanks. :)

Are such things readily available?

And thanks for the welcome everyone. I've been forbidden from getting the Fabia chipped (at least while the warranty is on) but to be honest I think I'll be quite happy playing with all the buttons anyway - my Rover has done me very nicely (45mpg isn't bad by anyone's standards) but lacked all those little essentials like heated seats and a refrigerated snack compartment. :)

Peterc10 - are you a fellow spork-fighter? We must spar sometime!

A raving nutcase, should fit in quite nicely!!!!

If you are that nutty you need a Fun for sure, welcome fellow nutbag :)

The affore mentioned trim has a part number of - 6Y0 857 231 B41

?iid=ysm398&outx=600&quality=70

This will fit all Fabias and matches the dash perfectly, costs around

Magic - cheers, Lummox. I was thinking of a JVC KD-G612 - cheap, does MP3 and has a front-panel input jack...
