Liquid in drivers footwell - what is it?

Featured Replies

Felicia '97 1.3

For a couple of weeks now there's been a small amount of liquid on the driver's side mat. I thought it was just water from my shoes but it slowly dawned on me that this wasn't drying out. It smells like oil and it feels like oil, but it's reasonably clear and as far as I know there's not much here carrying oil that could leak(?).

Called the AA out this morning on a different matter and asked what he thought. He seemed to think it might be a brake fluid or clutch fluid leak. Any thoughts?

It maybe gearbox oil coming up through the speedometer cable if the gearbox breather is blocked or if the gearbox has been overfilled. Sounds odd, but it's not uncommon on the Felicia.

what is AA?

Anonymous Alcoholics?

because both "brake fluid" and "clutch fluid" answers come from the twilight zone.

daverapid is right, but it may be also fluid from the leveling headlights system.

in that case you are the last one having fluid in it.

Automobile Association :)

.

AA, automobile association , it's a well known national breakdown service in the uk, they have bright yellow vans.

we also have RAC, royal automobile club, which is another well known breakdown service here in the uk. They have bright orange vans.

oh, I see.

we have similar organization in Russia.

but nobody trusts them.

they are always drunk, greasy, and whatever fault the car has, they use first a hammer.

their cars were once yellow.

only if you don't have a friend to tow you home, we call them for tow.

if you're too far from home, better leave it there.

they charge as the whole price of the car till home.

I'll have a look at the gearbox/speedo cable tomorrow. I haven't topped it up for a long time though and the main oil has needed topping up a couple of times lately, but maybe that's leaking somewhere else.

:giggle: :giggle:  It won't be the headlamp leveller, the entire system has just about enough fluid to fill and egg-cup and it would all have been absorbed by the sound deadening material, or evaporated.

I'd pretty much be going for gear-box fluid coming out the back of the speedo in the dash.
