Heater blowng cold/lukewarm

Featured Replies

Hello

My 97 year 1.3mpi felicia wont blow hot air, only cold or lukewarm, where to look for the problem?

I also noticed that the temp gauge is acting up it goes all the way up almost to the overheating mark and then comes all the way back down and sits in the middle.

2 possibilities:

1) the flaps that control warm air admission don't move (cable snapped)

2) there is a pocket of air in cooling system.

that could explain the temp. gauge issue, although it can be connector corrosion or sensor itself is dying.

I had no heat coming from mine, it was because the thermostat was removed/missing and so the motor never actually got warmed up! also check your cooling fan if its working.

Sounds like an air lock in the system.

How do i get the air out?

find an uphill road or raise front wheels,

remove the cap of expansion tank,

remove temperature sender on top of thermostat,

pour antifreeze mixture in expansion tank till no bubbles escape from  temperature sender hole.

done.

all is done with engine cold.

Maybe Insufficient coolant due to cooling system excessive  pressurisation  caused by  frozen cracked bock or cylinder head , or head gasket leaking.

ie not enough water because its being expelled by pressurisation.

If true try running with loosened screw cap to relieve pressure as ' temporary' bodge job.

Cylinder head sealant might work ,

A little update on my problem, first i checked if i had enough coolant i was a bit low so i added some, that did not fix the problem, then i tried to go get the air out that also did not work. Then i checked if the hoses to the heating matrix were getting warm, they were, the flaps what control warm air admission were fine too. Then i touched the heating matrix and it was not getting warm and i also noticed that my coolant smelled like gasoline. So i went ahead and removed the upper part of the engine to get to the head gasket, and yes it was blown.

So im guessing that gasoline got in the coolant and that ruined my heating matrix, and thats why i was not getting any warm air.

gasoline doesn't ruin the heating matrix.

it is made of aluminum or copper.

but I bet you'll find tons of dirt stuck into its fins.

you got to clean it with some very powerful solvents till you see some light through fins.

tubes inside get some coated varnish hardened looking like melt sugar.

a blown head gasket usually overheats the coolant.

so in fact you have poor heat transfer from heating matrix to fins.

Ok, i did not know the heating matrix thing. But the head gasket was a goner too, i did not have engine problems yet but im pretty sure that soon i would have. Also the valve stem seals needed replacing.

Hmm, just reading this. I am getting just Luke warm air from my heater. I just have the 3 rotary controls not the fancy digital ones. My engine temp is fine. I did hear some faint clicking in the dash but just dismissed it. Could it be these heater flaps ? My car is the 07 octy estate.
