Hiya,Guys and Girls.

Ok, I want to buy a mountain bike,

Nothing too extreme, Not gonna be downhill champ or anything just want something to keep fit and get out on a bit.Looking to spend A couple of hundred quids . Bearing in mind I havent rode a bike since my PK Ripper in 1980, Ahh.

So who can reccomend me a reasonable, light nice bike.

Any links or respones are greatfully recieved.

Cheers

Tim

I think the words reasonable and light dont go too well being honest.

Trek do some light bikes around the £400 mark, as do Specialised. The main thing to remember is that the more expensive the bike, the lighter it is. That is why your kids £69.99 clunker is more heavy than 3 adults bikes.

A nice entry level bike will cost you around £300.

The wife has a Specialized HardRock for around £300 & that does the job. Decent components, V-brakes, suspension forks, light-ish alloy frame.

GIANT !!!

On my 3rd GIANT Mountain bike now, can't fault them at all (spent £750 a year ago on a MARIN and sold it within 2 months and went back to GIANT)

Thay start at about £150 upwards but you can get a decent one for about £200 - £250 !

Fire Mountain is a classic, had one that got robbed and replaced it with...another Fire Mountain. Hardrocks were nice too, not really looked at bikes for 18 months - 2 years but they should still be nice

the more expensive the bike, the dearer it is.
damn, Sherlock Holmes levels of deduction...

but yeah, light and £200ish don't go together... :(

Try Halfords... There range of Carrera bikes are ok for the price but to be honest, £200 will not get you much..

What type of riding do you do? What about a 'town' Mountain style bike?

Have you looked for second hand?

cheers
