SMF lightened or standard? Need to order tonight opinions please

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have whittled the list of clutch options down to darkside/ OCD and Awesome, do i go for the lightened option or the standard weight SMF?

Opinions please guys as I want to order tonight, cant wait to get the kit fitted! Have been driving like a Grandma on a Sunday paper run for the last month!

Cheers Guys

Paddy

I've got a lightened 14lb smf flywheel in mine and it ain't the smoothest in the world!

If you want smooth then stick with the DMF,otherwise say goodbye to smoothly pulling away at the lights lol

I was looking at the darkside as my TPS won't sell to me, I was quoted £330 which is what I can get a Darkside kit for or ECs.

Your saying you can supply a complete kit for £200? I take it that's genuine VAG etc etc

Can you pm me the details? I'll snap your arm off at that price!!

Cheers guys!!!

Bristol TPS are toads to, the kent branch is friendly :D

Ha ha

Cnt clutch kits ;)

Get on it clivey

When I called TPS the other day they weren't that cheap for me either. It wasn't that far off of going direct to Vw for the parts.

The fly was cheaper even with surcharge but the clutch wasn't all that different in price.

If Clive did do a complete kit for the £200 I'd be knocking for one that's for sure :)

Will call them today and see what I can do guys

They might have put prices up as seen there selling lots normal rubbish by Tps

Sounds good, let us know how you get on :)

I have an aluminium smf on mine that weighs as much as a gnat's gonads.... it's horrible (continuous chattering at idle in neutral) but thats on a 6 speed O2M. I will be changing for a heavier smf (but still lighter than stock).

Hi Clive,

As per our quick conversation earlier... I have looked on Euro Car Parts they only seem to have the Valeo and Transmech kits? Is it one of those?

Just asking as I generally don't know how much of a difference there is but how much better would the oe vr6 clutch be compared to the likes of a Sachs oe equivalent part no?

This is the only way so far I've got a coat anywhere near the quotes that people have stated from previous purchases.

If it really is more beneficial to have the vr clutch then I'll wait to see what you can get hold of as want to go the best route I can afford :)

Hi,

I may be incorrect here, I am sure i will be corrected but, I think the standard clutch is a SACHS may be wrong? I am trying to source a G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch which will be a SACHS complete kit. Just waiting for TPS to call back Clive as my local TPS are useless.
