  • Well its a good job its not your car then aint it and it is a huge drop from what it was. Instead of slating other peoples cars try thinking before you do so this is a club were we all have different

  • Put non vrs eibach a on mine which dropped it 14mm ish had all the arguments about weight but really??? They are supplied for a 1.8t hatch and mines a vrs 1.8t hatch!!! So the weight difference is wha

  • At the end of the day modifying cars isn't as simple as buying parts made for your car- it's all about trial and error. That's half the fun in modifying a car, trying things nobody else has done and s

might go for 40/30's then. TIme to try and get my spring compressor out of retirement lol

As I suspected, that is a minimal drop from the standard vRS ride height. Definitely not anything like 40mm.

The weight rating is probably all wrong, and the handling isn't going to be quite as it should either.

Also, the back looks WAY too low in comparison to the front. The sills are no longer parallel to the floor. Clearly not the correct rating, and I would not be happy driving that. Whilst there is normally a difference between front and back gaps (as the arch gaps are not supposed to be even on the Octy), that is too much.

I realise you are going to completely ignore this, and drive it anyway, but I'm pretty certain that is not a good recipe. If these are MkIV Golf springs there is not going to be anywhere near enough spring rate in the back end.

And that was previous ride height so now tell me there is no drop. Oh and drives great

I'd ignore him, he just after a rise. You can see the drop immediately

Im happy but just winds me up that he can slate others cars for no good reason

Looks good ash sits pretty much the same as my coil overs they're a bit lower but about the same in level. Take no notice of that other guy seems he likes to provoke, notice you've never seen any pics of his car !! If he's even got one.

Its sitting a lot better at the back than mine was and I fitted cobra springs specific for the Octavia vrs. My front sat roughly the same as yours but the back tyre was under the arch. I ended up having to fit some spacers to lift the back end up. To get the front a little lower and to match the back, try fitting some vw polo top mounts. I've fitted them to mine and got another 15mm drop.

Dont want any more of a drop as the roads here are ruined and too many speed bumps around or i would get coilies and slam it

That's fair enough buddy just thought I'd let you know you have a few other options to get that little bit extra mm drop, but yeah I know what you mean about the roads. You might also find, if the springs are new they should settle a little lower over the next few weeks.

It had the wrong springs on it before, and it's got non-Octavia springs on it now.

I'm not telling you what to do, merely warning you that it is not right.

Whether or not you choose to remain ignorant of this fact is entirely up to you.

Not slating anyones car, or bitching, just pointing out genuine safety issues.

Feel free to take it to a proper specialist and confirm though...

You've never seen mine because it's a scratched up, standard family wagon, covered in about two years of road dirt. But underneath it's all as it should be. As is every car I work on.

Not trying to provoke anything, except make people aware than what may look right to the eye, is not necessarily right. All that glitters...

DemonUFO- I think it's safe to say that nobody is overly interested in your opinion whether it be safety or styling related

I have to say I'm not entirely convinced about this argument regarding the mk4 springs being unsuitable for the Octavia. Fair enough about height/drop etc but the weight at the front will be the same. The rear end is obviously gonna be heavier on the Octavia, but like I mentioned before, I've seen Octavia specific springs still sit too low including mine.

Its personal opinion as well as other factors but I wouldnt fit non model specific springs for that reason.

Clearly the old ones were just wrong also.

Well to say its a mk4 golf platform and majority of parts are the same so you cant really say they are wrong. Yes they are designed for a lighter shell but they are on and all working fine so im happy with it and if you not dont comment

Well proof's in the pudding and all that. I'm sure Ash could keep us updated how its going with the handling etc. To mention about safety issues seems a bit Ott IMHO. He seems happy with them.

Its a forum and people will give both sides of the coin.  Nothing wrong with that.

Actually the weight at the front will be disturbed as well, in the opposite direction. Because the car is now sitting too low and too soft at the back end which is much heavier, and much further behind the axle than the Golf (quite a crucial point) the front will be unloaded to the point of the steering being lighter and causing more understeer.

Demonufo stop being a keyboard warrior and get off my topic please your veiws are not welcome

Chill out :D

Demonufo stop being a keyboard warrior and get off my topic please your veiws are not welcome

It is an open, public forum. What you need to remember that what you post here is visible to everybody, some of which may not be aware that such springs may have an adverse effect on handling. It is only fair and right to point this out.

Whilst you may have started the topic, it does not give you ownership. I have neither posted anything abusive, nor offensive.
