It's as if it knows it's going...

Featured Replies

When I changed car 3 years ago I wanted a Yeti. I liked the Yeti.

But discounts were no where to be found, whereas they were for the Octavias and in 1.6 Greenline form, the Octy II was supposedly far more economical.

Soon after buying the Greenline I discovered that it was quite noisy, had overly firm lowered suspension and actually had poorer consumption than the Octy I 1.9TDi that it replaced. It never got close to the mid 50's average nor the 72mpg long journey personal best.

Recently, on a bit of a whim, we went and browsed around the used Yeti at Oxford Skoda and in a very uncharacteristic way, by the end of the visit I'd agreed to trade in the disappointing Greenline for a 10k mile 110 Yeti SE Plus. "If I'm not gettting the amazing fuel consumption promised, then I might as well buy the car I wanted in the first place".

Since then, I've taken out the Parrot bluetooth and Pure DAB kits and all of the junk that's accumulated in the boot and was rather surprised at just how much there was.

Today, I popped back to Oxford Skoda to pay them some money in advance of next week's trade in and, kept as eye on the consumption as I wasn't in a hurry.

I think it's doing this deliberately to wind me up

It's almost like that

My Fabia vRS has been the same lately. I need an Octavia vRS estate diesel now my commute is so much more. Even went to my dealer to ask them to keep an eye out. The fabia has never been great on fuel but now I'm easily seeing 40mpg.

Oh, and a Wadworths 6X bar towel

So what you are saying is the bigger wheels completely messed up your mpg ;)

It's maybe a coincidence that the down-and-out living in your boot has just moved on.

Not much!!!!   wow thats a lot of "junk"  The vrs wheels are very heavy so i bet thats made a difference. You do realise the yeti doesnt have a big boot dont you.........hahaha.

obese down an out lol.

That's not far off 50mpg more than I get from my petrol VRS.  I think maybe I need something more economical...   :o

To be fair, that figure was certainly helped by the journey being an early Saturday round trip from Cheltenham to Oxford on the A40, using cruise and basically sitting at 10ish mph below the posted limit. So next to no traffic, country roads, 50mph or so.

Strange because the 17" Zeniths I put my 1.9tdi Octy made no difference to my mpg. They were heavy as well. Still got amazing results :)

Tbh I don't like that 1.6cr engine after I tested one.

I live in Stroud and also bought my car from the Oxford dealer.  I also know a person from Gloucester and a person in Nailsworth who also bought from the Oxford dealer.  Doesn't say much for the Gloucester dealer does it.

I don't think the wheels make much difference at all, maybe 1-2 mpg at most.

The 1.6 engine is a bit of an oddity. It's actually got a great spread of torque and a very linear delivery so will allow you to make remarkably brisk progress. It is, however, so quiet and refined that you don't realise what it's achieving.

The CR110 in the incoming Yeti is definitely noisier and more diesely if that makes sense.

The first Octavia I bought came new from Bamfords, but that was at the point where we were still doing the "ooh, haven't they got better and look how much cheaper they are than a VW" stage, so whilst I didn't get much off of list, I got a little and was happy.

With the second, I wanted the 1.6, and they were very few and far between at the time. I enquired about one at Bamfords but there was little appetite to do more than knock a couple of hundred off of list, with what felt like a "take it or leave it" attitude. I left it. Winchester then got an ex Skoda Greenline in, and they were willing to negotiate a deal.

With this one, looking about, Oxford had 10 month old cars in the spec that interested me @£16k on the windscreen whereas (as they now are) Blade's Yetis started at £18.5 for 2-3 year old cars. Visiting Blade felt a bit pointless.

When I got to Oxford, they were a lot more "we will do what we need to to sell you this car", rather than "there's a car, do you want to buy it?".

Usually it takes me months to decide on a car, so the fact that I went from just browsing as an excuse for a trip out, to signing up for a Yeti in the space of an hour suggests that the Oxford team have got it about right.

Got to say that Bamfords/Blade have always seemed pretty good on the servicing and parts side, so I'll continue to use them for that.
