  • I think you have read the same detailing article i was directed to mate - i was shocked when the guy did the IPA wipedown!!! But a few people have indicated this is the case long before now - Fairy l

Cheers for the info on APC, Didn't just want to throw that sort of stuff at my car without checking first!

I wonder if Stardrops still exists. Used to clean everything with that stuff.

Most APC's are pretty much the same formula

Branding makes little difference....eg...'Muc off' pink cleaner is expensive and is no better than Sainsburys All Purpose Cleaner @ 50p for 500Ml

Go for the cheapest you can

Theres an incredible amount of snobbery attached to car cleaning...Its a minefield of products and good and bad advice out there.

In short, everyone has their preference, but many display little difference

Well..It cleared and 2.5 hours later..

The car is now fully decontaminated of any wax at all and is squeaky clean ready for sealer

Car was liberally sprayed with APC and Fairy liquid applied via snow foam lance

Then washed with Fairy liquid and hot water

As can be seen Fairy liquid and APC alone are not enough

I then sprayed the car with IPA and rubbed it in with a MF cloth sprayed with IPA as well

I wet the car again to see the results:

All wax gone!!

I then dried it thoroughly using my drying towels and a High pressure air blaster ready for a coat of Autobrite Hellshine Abyss Sealer

This was applied wafer thin and allowed to cure for 10 minutes....I did a panel at a time, then buffed off

Here are the results:

Looks good Chris

Two questions, Chris, if I may...

1. How exactly can you tell that all the wax has gone?

2. You didn't feel the need to polish it before the sealer?

Many thanks.

Mike.

Really looks good chris. Mine looks shocking it was far too cold to attemp mine today, condensation was building on the car and turning to ice.

A job for another I think or I just hand it to a professional.

Great stuff ChrisRs.

Hi Mike

1. Purely on beading alone

2. Normally I would but its blemish free and time was short due to morning rain...so gave it a miss this time

Claying wasn't needed either...Well kept protection tends to repel dirt and contaminants better

Thanks for the info, Chris. As always, very much appreciated.

I did mine this afternoon after the heavy rain this morning.

A 3 hour prep and wash. Finished with a spray of QD to aid drying. I must say its much easier during the winter time to get the car dry before the dreaded water marks form. It was a pleasure to do.

Tomorrow I'll seal the alloys, dress the tyres, do the glass and polish the exhaust pipes.

Regards

Mike.

Okay back on topic, can I use Flash lemon all purpose cleaner safely on my cars paint to strip the wax?

You can use any APC.....but it must be used in conjunction with a product like Alcohol (IPA) or Panel wipe/similar

Can you get this ipa/panel wipe online only or from a shop?

On the LSP stripping discussion - i found an interesting article being discussed on one of the Detailer forums.

Wondering if Chrisrs and others would be interesting in reading it with an open mind?

If so i can dig it out and post it up later for a read.... maybe some experimentation in fact.

Let me know guys.

Yup interested. I'm off work next week and feel the need for an uber clean. Going to Waxstock, not to show but need a clean car just to turn up! Time off work will give me time to play.
