vRS exhaust tail pipes

Featured Replies

Good day all

Can any tell me if the Octavia 3 TDI vRS estate that has the twin tail pipes, are they both working tail pipes or is one a dummy??

Many thanks

Steve

One is a dummy.

The Diesel TDI has one dummy.

Right hand is dummy

Oh dear!!

Will have to see if it's possible to get both connected, what's the point of have twin outlets if one does not work - just for fashion!!

Ok many thanks - now I know I can investigate

Cheers

Steve

Yep the chrome tips are just for show and are just openings for a plain exhaust underneath.

The TDI (as the Golf 7 GTD) gets a twin exit exhaust behind the left hand tip, the right is I believe blocked off. The TSi has two single exit tailpipes one out of each tip.

Its plain cost saving, the TDI and TSI cars have different exhaust systems, means they can provide the look without having to engineer a common exhaust system for both cars; that or its just cheaper to make one bumper for the car and muck about with the tip exits to suit.

Without crouching down and looking in you'd be fairly hard pressed to tell on the move, except when you see stuff coming out of the exhaust on load/when under load.

would have been better if they forgot about the fake exits and just put chrome tips on the real exhausts, I wouldnt particularly care if you can physically tell the TDI and TSi apart so long as the arrangement was less of a dogs dinner.

The big question will be if someone can fit the TSi system onto the TDi version?

You can have a special garage do some empty pipe for you. This is what I did. :D

CSM, you are going to be a bad influence on a lot of people here... :P

Me , bad? :D I don't think so, just trying to help a bit around here :P

Hmm I would have thought you would then be into the realms of DPF errors as the TSI won't have them and the ECU would still think there should be DPF filters.

Best bet is to have a section of exhaust fabricated, weather you would need another back box or not is another matter....

I'm just going to leave it as it is for a while after I collect the car and see what my garage says about it.

Would be interested in a group buy / group mod with this somewhere reputable?

You would have to keep the DPF system in the UK as it is now part of the MOT test - If your car was originally fitted with a DPF it should be there on a MOT test.

I believe the MOT test is just an external visual check. If items are missing from the internals, the tester will never know.
