Got the Octavia today!!!

Featured Replies

Got it just tonight...parted with

1) some Dunlops are OK, might be worth noting the model down?

2) Big tank yes. I thought all Octy's did.

Re the armrest, drop it as low as you can and it doesn't get in the way

4x4 hatchback?

rare beasts in th uk those, IIRC.

only ever seen one.......nice though.

Ditch the armrest nothing but a pain

And yes the gears are a little stiffer

1) Drive with them on and see what you think

2) Fuel tank is 65ish litres I usually get about

I have Dunlop SP Sport 01's as they were brand new on thecar when I bought it. They're a good all-rounder. Nice levels of grip that brakes progressively when it does, decent in the wet, quiet and seem hard wearing.

Thanks guys for all the replies:

Todays fun exploring found the following:

1. Water jet for front widscreen work fine but the water stinks?

2. No water coming out for rear wiper do they have a separate tank?

3. How the heck do you get the jets for the headlights working?

4. Is it just me or do you have to change from 1st to 2nd gear really quick?

5. The latch for the armrest cover is off and broken is that a common occurance?

6. The car seems really jacked up like on stilts is that how its meant to look?

7. The ESP button should the light be on on the dash display or off for the ESP to be on?

8. EDDYH do you think there is something wrong with my turbo as it is not maybe as quiet as it should be...as the car is standard.

Arm rest okay now just pushed it down but thanks to TaviaRS for advising me.

Are there any Insurance Companies that would be helpful with me with modifications EXCEPT CHRIS KNOTT...who are you guys with?

Thanks again for all the excellent replies.

Aaquil.

Ok for headlight washers to work... turn on lights and hold front windscreen spray for about 2 seconds and they will go.

Same tank for rear window so blockage or pump gone.

ESP is on all the time.... if light on dashboard is on it means its off.

4x4 fuel tanks are larger than standard octavias so take quite a large chunk of fuel.

Car is higher been a 4x4 so looks jacked up.

HTH

1: sounds like the waters been in there a long time...just change it.

2: pump is ok so check if water is coming out from anywhere esle..if so probably pipe come off.

4. 1st gear on 4x4 is really short.

6. 4x4 is a lot higher...if you want it lower it's going to need some suspension work i.e. shorter springs.

8. Can you hear a whistling or is it something else?

  • Author

Thanks guys for that...I can hear a kind of whistle...doesn't sound dodgey.

3. If the washers are because you have xenons, they squirt intermittently and only once you've kept the stalk held back for a second or two. I liked it in my old fabia as you could squirt the windscreen and not the headlights.

5. Don't know, but I thought the latch was "locked" when the armrest was in the upright position to prevent it from opening accidentally and emptying contents in rear footwell. Can anyone else with an octy & armrest check?

7. IIRC, the ESP light should light up when you start the car (proves bulb / light is ok). Then, light is off and ESP is on. If you push the ESP button, this turns ESP off and the light comes on to warn you that ESP is disabled. I *think* the ESP light flashes if/when it kicks into place.

Thanks for that.

Should I go to SKODA to check washer (rear) problem?

Funny you should mention the issue of the water smelling as I have the same problem on the Ibiza. It smellls REALLY bad like sulphur. I'm just trying to use it until it's empty and then refill with some nice smelling stuff.

If the car is under warranty then take it to Skoda for the rear washer issue, otherwise raise it with Car People.

Thanks EddyH I will do that...

MORE FUN TODAY!!!

Engine Yellow Warning Light came back on today even though 'The Car People' said it had been sorted. I spoke to them and they said they will try to get it sorted and if they cannot it will go to a SKODA DEALERSHIP. I'm wondering how long will that take?

Cigarette Lighter socket and rear wash wipers are defo not working...honeymoon period is defintely over!!!

I spoke to SKODA about this Engine Light issue they stated that if the engine seems to be running okay then its probably okay and that they may not have reset the ECU properly?!!! So fault code will come back. I asked if they could have just ignored the fault and reset the ECU (without fixing the problem). He stated not really because the Light would come on immmediately.

I phoned 'The car People' about 1 hour ago as the Customer Services lady had not got back to me the guys on the main desk stated that she had been very busy and apologised he then took my 3 tele numbers and said he would get her to ring me first thing in the morning and as I was planning to go to Birmingham on Saturday they would try to at least arrange that it could be checked to see if the problem was major so I can decide to go or cancel my trip (My dad is going to be well peeved off as I haven't been to see him in ages...you know dad eh?) Any advice guys? PLEASE!!!

Rather narked off Aaquil.

.

If its an intermittent fault I dont think the light will come back on straight away.

If you disconect the battery for 10 mins that will clear the Engine light until the fault re occurs.

I dont suggest you do this or anything else at this stage, the car is covered by some form of warranty & as soon as you start fiddling with it they have an excuse not to honour any warranty. Stay relaxed about it but keep the pressure on, these lights come on for the slightest fault & 99% of the time its something really minor. To cover yourself get them to confirm its OK to carry on driving the car, then if its something else breaks its back to them to sort it.

re other points,

Armrest a pain I keep mine in the vertical position

Water running in when you open the hatch is caused by water collecting in the gap at the bottom of the rear Glass, Easily fixed, get some 2mm round rubber strip & push this into the gap, bit of silicone or oil helps it go in or if your a dab hand with a sealant gun a strip of clear Silicone sealant like the stuff you put round kitchen sinks will do the trick.

Suspension is a bit high as std but from memory car handles incredibly well, it seems to lean so far & then just maintain that lean all the way through the corner. + side is you dont keep grounding it which I seem to do a lot now mines lowered

CEL could be anything....do you have anyone near you with VAGCOM?

I'd take it to a Skoda dealer ge them to read the error code...then you can decided on what to do.

For the rearwashers insert a pin into the hole on the jet to unblock the hole- it usually gets crud/dirt in it and needs intermitant unblocking. (If this doesn't work check for a disconnected pipe by running the washer for a while and checking for leaks in the boot. On the front washers the water should spray out in a fan pattern (not a thin jet) and these are not adjustable..just use a pin to gently remove any crud. The smell is probably down to some tight ar5e in the past using tap water instead of washer fluid in the tank. You'll need to syphone the water out and clean out the plastic tank(Might explain the jets blocking as tap water either tends to cause the balls in the rear jet to rust or algae grows in the tank, breaks off in clumps and gets sucked into the pipes/jets)

The Armrest doesn't lock when upright and does spill its contents into the rear footwell. I only use mine when on the motorway and not likely to change gear/use handbrake. It's tends to be more comfortable to lower it past horizontal to point downwards slightly towards the base of the gear lever.

If it's a pain then it's easy enough to remove..best done sat in the backseat. The 'plastic sidetrim' on the left side can be gently prised away from the trim on the right hand side by as it only clips into the right hand trim side (no screws) GENTLY pull the left hand side trim and you should be able to see where it clips onto the right hand side trim, just squeeze to pull apart.

Once off, the armrest is only held in place by one bolt, undo this and the armrest lifts out..(I only did this to adjust the handbrake and so I refitted the armrest and I never noticed what you might need to blank off the hole where the armrest used to be)

Try gently prising the ESP switch out of the dash and checking the switch is working..it might have been in the switched off position before becoming faulty or a wire loose etc.
