Lotsa questions, help me again please ;)

Yep, basically got all the added spec items for free. Might not be the best deal, but I am happy with it.

I was prepared to walk if I wasn't happy with the deal, Sales guy wanted me to deal today, so he went back a few times "to the manager" until I was happy.

Good dealers though, I dealt with them before, friendly and helpful and always have been so for me, so I am happy to deal with them even if I might have got a slightly better deal elsewere. (online "broker" place I tried came in about £6-700 less).

* pretty sure I didn't spec the winter pack at the online one too.

I would enjoy the relationship with the dealer while it lasts...if they give 11% discount (basically their whole margin) on a car that has a 20 week lead time due to demand, they won't be in business for much longer.

Thanks guys, and Yes James, that is exactly my attitude towards fuel costs .... also when you consider the extra outlay on the RS is only ~£300 and diesel is a few pence more, you still can eat up that without doing a huge amount of miles.

I think it worked out to 11% discount, so pretty close maths there !

I won't enjoy waiting ... I am very impatient, but for once I decided that getting exactly what I wanted was worth holding out for, especially As I plan on a long term ownership for this car :)

Hope all goes well for your pick-up

Wasn't there a way to track your build I saw mentioned ? perhaps I have to wait a couple of weeks before its in the system but maybe it'll help seeing its progress (or frustrate !)

After looking at the discounts and the maths on mine I have become a master at working it all out quickly on the Octavia!!!! :-)  So thank you :-)

As for tracking, sadly no Skoda is behind the times on that, there is no proper online tracking, I believe a couple of dealers do there own tracking, but no proper Skoda one, must admit when we were waiting for my wives car last year looking at the online VW tracker just drove me crackers in the end!

I can't wait for my pick up, all arranged for Midnight on March 1st!!! :-)

They have been around a while, and pretty sure (+hope) they will be for a good while yet. I am guessing most of their customer base doesn't haggle much TBH, but you may have confirmed what he was telling me re the margins ... TBH I took that with a pinch of salt !

Great choice.

Was you dealer able to confirm availability of the Metal Grey? Reason for asking is that following my order for a Race Blue TSI vRS hatch in December, I have in the last couple of week been trying to change my order to the Metal Grey. Dealer says that although the colour option is on their order system, the factory will not accept the colour request at the moment and that they just need to keep trying on the system. Having spoken with Skoda UK. last week, I was advised that Metal Grey will only be available from the 27th January, but the dealer was not able to confirm this. I have been assured that the change in order will not delay the build! Will wait and see. Just curious on what your dealer advised you in this respect.

I don't know TBH ... He didn't mention anything. They also have an order for a Yeti in that colour that I know of. TBH even if I have to wait till the end of month before its submitted, it's not an issue that worries me :)

I dont think that their whole margin, some online dealers are offering 15-17% discount on VRS so must be a little more room than that, I would hazard a guess at minimum 20% margin

Mr Grump, I would save on both the Canton and the Amundsen, and use the funds to go for the DSG instead:)

Amundsen for me is only looks - my garmin, my samsung galaxy and the bolero on my car together cost half as much as the Amundsen. And I can use my mobile and my garmin OUTSIDE of the car as well if I need navigation. Bolero and standard speakers are just right for most people

no no no no no.

DSG + Diesel = horrible.  Petrol is a different animal altogether.

Your chosen spec looks good but I would delete the kessy & amundsen and go for winter pack and Columbus.

I wouldn't argue, my previous car was Octy 2 TDI manual. However now the DSG TSI feels in a completely different league (better).

I have tested a tiguan 2.0 TDI DSG and it felt quite good, maybe only the downshifts were a bit questionable at times. Anyway, I much favor the 6-speed dsg over the 7-speed.

I suppose you are right for the TDI vRS, but back on topic I still think that overall the dsg is worth it pricewise in terms of comfort

no no no no no.

I'd definately keep the kessy, had it on my old Mondeo and really miss it now. Was nice to just walk out the house, open the door and press a button to start the car rather than getting my keys out. Also when getting kids in and out of the car without having to hold keys was great, just pick them out the car seat close the door and press handle, job done car locked.

kessy seems great but, having used in once at a hotel there are downsides, I was staying in a suite at the Cliveden (company paying for thankfully) & was given a chess piece instead of a room key, this opened the door a couple of inches, I was impressed at 2pm when shown by the concierge however, 12 hours and many drinks later I wasn't.

The door was so thick, you couldn't see any light from inside the room, after a minute or two of frantically waving a bloddy chess piece around I decided to shoulder barge the door (not the best decission I've ever made) well, my wife nearly wet herself laughing as I lay on the floor of the room rolling in drunken agony from impacting with a 340 year old oak door.

Key less access ain't all its cracked up to be.

You can't compare keyless car entry with hotel door entry systems, its a different system. No waving keys or cards, just have your keys in your pocket or bag and pull on the car door handle it unlocks and opens the door in one movement push button start on the car and off you go. Locking the door you just get out and close the door, pushing the door handle button or as i understand with kessy a swipe with your hand.

I was going to say its much easier getting in your car whilst drunk using kessy but that's not a good comparison!

Once you have used the system its a pain in the xxx to go back to keys.
