New guy saying hi! And VRS dash fault already :(

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Well it was always the plan to join and say hi when I finally picked up my 59 reg Octavia VRS tdi in racing blue.. I'm buzzing with it!

The whole point of this newer car, 38k on clock was hoping no faults! But already I have a small fault, I do have warranty, but just checking its nothing simple or obvious as I will no doubt need to take car back and drive round in curtosy car for few days :/

Ok, so on my instrument binical, when I turn my lights on, the left indicator light, and the water level light dimley illuminate. However, if I open any door, and curb lights come on... These lights go out?

If I turn spots lights on, these lights go out, and the steering icon partially illuminates..

This morning, driving to work after 30min driving, they eventually went out. It was getting sunny and I'd left lights on... Heat a coinsidance?

Finally, the dash light dimmer is not working, could this be the cause? The car also has factory xenons headlights, seeing as this happens with lights on... Is it a load issue?

The car is otherwise pristine, and didn't have this fault till this morning, I've had it two days! Not the biggest issue in the world.. But is bugging me!

Oh, and are squeaks or minor rattles from hatch boot lid normal? Just a niggle, but I'm expecting silence! And no... Cars not been in bump, had it thoroughly checked!

Sorry for such a long first post

Mike

Welcome to Briskoda and sorry to hear about the problems. Please let us know what the fix is once your car is sorted.

Don't know about the lights but a rattle from the back is pretty common.

Can be the cover for the high level brake lights or the seat bolsters at the sides of the rear seats not being set in properly.

A few have found a foreign object inside the trim of the boot lid, like a screw from the build.

Could be a dodgy earth on another component causing the dash related problem and not an actual dash problem.

Did you buy it from a garage? If so they should fix your dash light problem as its reasonable to assume it was there when you bought it. Good luck

Thanks guys,

Yes the dealer will fix, and it's going back tomorrow! Was just hoping there was a common easy fix! Sad to be handing the car back when just got it... Hopefully won't take too long as lord knows what curtosy car I will end up with!

As for boot, wiggled a few things, noise has gone.. Will never know what it was?

Ha!

Typical, got my old man to run it to dealer for me as I couldn't get out of work. Showed him what it was doing.. He set off and it stopped doing it! No lights flickering or anything! Has been with auto electrician for two days and not a sign of fault! I'm just hoping it does it in the morning for them... Otherwise I will just have to collect it! And Sod's law, I'll get down road and fault will start!

It's not they don't believe me.. Cause they do! Just it needs to be in the right place when it happens! Can see me having this fault (niggle) for a long time!

If they find nothing wrong you could take a video on your phone next time it happens so you at least have positive proof to share with them. Regarding the boot....stick the other 1/2 in there for a while to see if it comes back!

Oh, they don't doubt me. And have done a full diagnostics and nothing came up. Just really need it to happen while they got it so can do real checks!

Not worlds biggest problem! Just annoying me more than anything!

Thanks for that, yes it's the same issue as I have bar the indicator light?

I don't think it is light bleeding through, as it does go away completely, but then out of the blue, will return

Thanks for the spot!
