Front Parking Sensors retrofit to existing Reverse.

Featured Replies

Righty, Planning my add on fronts to my rear sensors.

I have an upgraded PDC Unit rev.C coming to replace the existing A unit , which will be an 8K allowing me to add front sensors.

I just wanted to clarify if anyone else had done this/ has any input.

I will need the harness for the front sensors, and front sensor modules,

http://www.kufatec.de/shop/en/skoda/octavia/octavia-1z/pdc-park-distance-control-front-sensor-harness-skoda-octavia-1z

i will also need the lead that had the button and connects between the harness and the rear module,

http://www.kufatec.de/shop/en/skoda/octavia/octavia-1z/pdc-park-distance-control-front-control-unit-harness-skoda-octavia-1z

I've done extensive reading into previous posts and not found anyone who has retrofitted just front, so just wanted to clarify if any further module->can gateway cabling was required, pretty sure as i already have front sensors it will not require soldering/splicing of lots of cables and just swapping the module and adding the cabling will enable all of this?

i have added front ops to my rear

i also added park assist too

Aha, just the man then ;)

is it as "simple" as i think? or will i need to do coding too (stream so no OPS)

Bump,

Would i be correct in thinking that just running the cable through the firewall on the drivers side from the front, the loom that runs to the front has the button for the dash and i just need to plug it into the Parking Distance Control unit at the rear.

as i already have rear sensors it shouldn't need coding/connecting to the can-bus as its already cabled for the rears?

you will need the looms to the front, the switch, 2nd buzzer, Module that supports 8x sensors

Was that not for OPS though? until i can justify the cost for CAN-Bus upgrade and a Bolero i will be using the stream (not even mp3) head unit.

Stream MP3 units will show the OPS as well (I used to have one). I have posted a picture on this forum before.

If you are not bothered about OPS, then it matters not which head unit you have.

I'd run the cable through the passenger side behind the glovebox and down that side of the vehicle to the controller which should be over the rear wheel arch. It's easier to get to. I'm not even sure there actually is one on the drivers side.

Interesting, when the parking sensor harness is run, the connector ends up on the drivers side of the car i thought?

Was thinking that it would be convent for the pre made controller harness connectors for the button and buzzer connectors to be at the back of the dash if routed that way..

also, not even MP3 Stream :( it only shows left/right bars

That's a LHD car.

Good point, but surely the harness will be the same between countries? still need to route that way for the sensor placement otherwise you could risk having the left/right swapped?

I thought almost the same as you originally.

Run through the firewall behind the glovebox, down past the battery to the front bumper.

Turned out the sensors were the wrong way round (the fronts are in series) and the cable way too long.

Ended up running across the engine bay (below the scuttle panel) and down past the coolant tanks and screen wash reservoir.

There's a clip in the latter to secure the plug for the front sensors where they join the loom.

Once the controller is coded to say you have front/rear sensors then the stream will show both front and rear of the car. On the Stream/Stream mp3 or Audience HU you only see two outer sensors. You'll need a Bolero and Columbus along with an OPS supported controller and wiring changes to see anymore.

Yeah i already have rears which show that on the stream :) OPS won't make any difference till i upgrade the HU

as for cabling route, thanks KBPhoto, that's exactly what i wanted to check before i started pulling the car apart and working out how/where/what ;)

Now... to get brave for parking sensor cutting :)

It's really not that bad.

I've just drilled a brand new replacement bumper...

I'm confused! If you only have rear sensors, shouldn't the picture in the Stream just show the back of the car (not the whole car)?

Apart from a better (colour) picture, what extra do you hope to get by upgrading to a Bolero?

Plan it carefully or you will be opening a can of worms

If you have a 2005 car then you can't mix match modules from newer OPS kits

If you have rear sensors then you will have to buy a module which supports front sensors too

Whole car is shown on the display of the stream as per that photo in the post you linked to earlier, i'm happy with left/right bars till I upgrade to OPS. but based on the quote below I'm thinking I have to do the whole lot in one go.

Okay, so I WILL need to upgrade it to OPS With Bolero, I was going to just get a updated module which supports 8K and then do a OPS recable/CAN-Bus upgrade at the same time as a Bolereo.

Guessing the upgraded module will need the upgraded can-bus and won't work in the older mode?

If you fit a bolero, then you will need an updated CAN gateway too (I have these and can do a pre-coded one)

WRch out if you do go for a full kit as the newer sensors don't have the same mounts to hold them to the bumper.

The old kits needed 27mm (I think) holes while the new ones need 18mm holes.

I'm not sure if new sensors fit old mounts.

If they don't, you'll need a new rear bumper with smaller holes.

Okies, my project cost just doubled then! :(

You can use the holder which the FL vRS uses

Yeah i was thinking i would be able to just add the sensors/harness/ swap the existing 4k module for a 8k module.. rather than having to upgrade to OPS and gateway etc.

You can just add 4x sensors, loom, buzzer, button and module, which is what I said in post 5 before all the other posts deviated with OPS

using the same sensors as the rear would be the cheapest, best to find someone breaking an older car
