PD130 lump available on any Octavias?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I'm at a cross roads between deciding to go for a fabia or Octavia, but I want the 1.9 lump and ideally also want it in 130 guise! Do any of the octavias have this engine in them or am I only likely to get the 105 1.9 or the 2.0 240? I love the 1.9 lump, I like the sound of it, I like the torque shove and from what I've read and experienced they are far more reliable than the 2.0 PD?

Thanks for any help :)

I had one in my old mk1 and loved it. It never gave me any trouble in 100k miles, but I don't think it was ever used in the mk2s. It was more economical and felt nippier than my current 140 2.0 pd engine or at least it seems that way.

Simply, and I am fairly sure on this,

"no"

Damn it!

I don't really want the mk1, I think the mk2 is far improved appearance wise! I have looked around for another bora tdi sport but low mileage ones are few and far between! Thanks for the replies chaps

My 130 sport bora is at 130000 miles. Still good and I got it for less than £900. On original suspension though and makes a few noises over speed humps.

Looking at the mk1 Octavia - the interior (door trims etc) look exactly the same as the bora. I assume they share the same platform?

No you wont get a 1.9TDi 130 in the mk2 Octavia, your main points are you said you like the sound of the 1.9TDi - well the 2.0 TDi sounds just the same to me, and you like the torque shove of the 1.9, well you wouldn't be disappointed with the 2.0TDI having 140 bhp and 230 odd lb/ft of torque, it has really decent amount of shove.

As for the reliability? Well maybe the 1.9 TDi has proved to be a bit more solid, but it does have its issues as well.

The 2.0tdi 140 engine has picked up an unfair reputation for poor reliability. The 2.0 VAG engines that gave a lot of trouble where the ones that where mounted longtitudal in the Audi's and VW's and Mk1 Superbs.

The BKD engine is a great (very torquey) lump.

Would you consider buying a 1.9 Mk2 and then having it remapped? I've no experience of mapping, but quite a few of the lads on here have.

I'm sure someone will advise you accordingly.

Good luck with the search.

Thanks for all the replies gentlemen.

So long as I'm not going to loathe owning the 2.0 for reliability I'll get one of them. I would get it remapped for sure, I'd like to have remapped my 2.2 civic but the clutches are made of chocolate and can't even take standard power!

I assume if I were to go for an elegance I should get a reasonable spec car ?

It is a lovely spec unless yr ocd like me and want absolutely EVERY toy (need an l&k) or you prefer the beefed up setup for higher perfomance (need a VRS).

I think if you go for 2006 or after you should get a very reliable and fairly powerful diesel engine that lends itself very well to tuning. Find the spec that suits you and enjoy!!

Seems to be reasonable to get 180 - 190 BHP out of a remapped 2.0 140 TDi if your going for a remap.

I do feel on here as soon as engines get talked about everyone that has a 1.9TDi, seems to jump to its defence

by slagging off how crap the 2.0TDi is and how unrelaible it is. I am sure there are some recurring issues with the 2.0 TDi

as there are with several engines in the VAG group.

I always think that throughout the VAG range there must be a hell of a lot of cars with the 2.0 140TDi racking up some huge mileages (i know of a few)

and I am sure that not everyone of them is a complete unreliable heap?

I guess as above you have two options.

Just get a 2.0 PD140 or a 1.9 PD105 with a remap to 140.

Both good engines. The 1.9 may give better MPG than the 2.0.

In elegance trim on the pre-FL you get headlamp washers, dual zone climate control, 6 cd changer in boot, rain sensitive wipers, auto dimming rear view mirror, jumbo box, 4x electric windows and cruise control.

Again thank you chaps. When referring to pre-fl what year was the change? I'm looking 2006 onwards really but am hoping to get the best vfm as I guess everyone is with cars ;)

The last pre fls were 58 plate I believe, and I personally haven't seen any 09 pre fls or 58 fls, so think you are looking at March 2009.

Thanks again chaps, so its either Elegance or L&K trim that I'm looking for regardless? Off to search for facelift differences ;)

We live and learn...!!

Can anyone point me to the differences pre and post FL?

Sorry one more question guys... well two

1 ) Would you own a high mileage 59 plate (100k) ? I figure its been sat on the motorway and likely to be less worn out than a 30k mile town car?

2 ) Would the 59 plate be CR or PD? Ad states PD but I thought they had moved over to CR by then?

Thanks

I looked at a few 90k+ FL and pre FL models and they take the mileage very well, I think the Octavia full stop handles the mileage well from a wear and tear perspective.

You could indeed find a motorway miles car in as good nick as a lower mileage town car. I think some do get abused though as they are such sturdy cars, so check any potential buy

very closely. I found quite a mixed bag when I was looking at them.

If its a 2.0 TDI you are looking at then it will be a PD until late 2010 AFAIK. The 170 TDi CR (vRS) came in abound 2008, and the 1.6 TDi that replaced the 1.9TDi is also a CR engine, but the

Octavia got the 140 CR engine a little bit after the likes of the Golf / A3 that got it in 2009.

p.s. don't forget that a 140 PD won't have the dreaded DPF - so it has its advantages!!
