Could be about to join you

Hello all

Could be about to buy a black VRS 130 fabia end of this week. Local dealer place is tidying it up for me to have a test drive. 85k on the clock, but it has a cracked wing mirror and a crack in the rear bumper (bleh)

But anyway, plans so far as of now are to:

Get a decat performance exhaust on it - miltek?

Get it remapped out at rtech for 170-180bhp :)

Now I have a few questions, what do most of you do to get it looking a bit more naughty/sporty cause I think as standard it still looks plain - don't get me wrong I won't be slamming it down and pimping with neons etc. I just think it needs to go a bit lower and have a fatter front and rear end (i think?)

Also i'm used to leather seats - but this one has the cream/black cloth seating - is the white an issue with marks/dirt? I'm a bit OTT at keeping it all looking tidy and clean

Anything else to look out for? I'm quite accustomed to the engine as I currently have a 115 TDI golf mk4

cheeeers

Theres a few body kits on superskoda.com but I have yet to see any in person and I do quite a few shows every year.

Mostly people lower them a bit, blacked out windows (privacy glass i think people call it now).

Front bumper either gets big mouthed for intercooler or the reg plate bit gets smoothed so it doesnt stick out like a sore arse.

Front grill mod is quite popular mod aswell.

As for the seats, the seat surgeons seem to be the place to go to get them leathered up, and yes the white on the standard ones are a pain to keep clean lol.

Lower it, colour code front grill, Front splitter ( Cupra R or similar ), wheel spacers, take te fabia badge off the back. Jobs a good'un.

Welcome, you wont regret it, they are fantastic cars, just make sure it has a decent service history, if the car is serviced regularly it will last a lifetime! if not it will become very expensive very fast!

All Fabia VRS's have these seats with the exception of the SE (special editions) (blue ones) you could try and pick up a set of seats out of one of these if it's being broken? or you can look at the the octavia VRS seats they come in leather, Mk4 golf seats. (last 2 might require slight modification to fit) or i've heard the TT interior is a straight enough swap!

The white is a midden to keep clean, especially if you work on the car then jump in it, could always invest in a seat cover! lol

There's a few options for you! but keep an eye on here as they often come up for sale on here and they will have probably been modded to fit already! :giggle:

If you want to do some exterior mods have a look at the build threads that these guys have put up, things like wrapping the grill and fog surrounds adding a seat LCR splitter and headlight mods make it look so much better, and you'll get a how to guide on how to do them properly on here!

if you want to get a custom look going there is a group buy on custom badges that will be ending shortly, might be a chance for you to get some decent badges made up cheap.

Are you thinking of doing some engine mods?

If so, would reccomend:

EGR delete kit, Worth doing the EGR - intercooler pipework while there! (prone to boost leaks out the crappy joints) you can buy the whole kit off ebay for about £180 or make a custom one yourself.

honda S2000 airfilter

then go for your remap!

Yes EGR delete goes without saying - Honda S2000 filter? Does it drive better with one? I've heard horror stories about using different panel filters causing oil and crap to wreck the turbo. ooooh ok. Intercooler pipework? Noted.

Yeh service history is a must just as with my golf (currently on 182k miles) - how often should I look for? Once every 10k?

I got recaro colour concepts in my golf - if it ends up being broken (some tit drove into it and I'm in the middle of insurance hell atm) I may see if i can fit them :)

Golf ones should go straight in, might have to change over frames,

I just bought a VRS on 130K service history is stamped every year by skoda and twince a year from 2010, so the more you have the better!

Have heard a few things about the panel filters but only when people are running hybrids so well over 200BHP,  the S2000 filter is designed for a 240BHP engine so is more than capable of withstanding the VAG block and they get a good write up by a lot of other members, you'll find some in the build threads......... and the best thing about it????!!!!!! it costs £20 from Ebay!!! lol

As for the intercooler pipework, are you looking at fitting a FMIC as apposed to the standard one? wouldn't waste your money on the boost pipe if you have plans of changing over, because you will either have to alter it or suppose you could sell it on if it's surplus.

Just a thought.

Also look at RARB's and poly bushes will have a big difference to the handling!

What sort of wheels are you looking at? standard ones are brilliant, apart from the fact they look plain! but speak to people on here or do a search RE sizes and stuff because anything over 17's it'll look silly unless done properly! and handle like a pig!

would also second the Wheel spacers comment. (looks a bit meaner!)

Look at johnno92 build thread. that's the look i'm going for myself, subtle but very effective!

  • Author

Subtle but effective (not too expensive at the moment) sounds good to me.

Is there much to gain with FMIC cause I kinda swear by the mentality of spending money only where it truly is worth it :P

So I suppose I should have just asked "What are the mods EVERYONE should consider as a must have" lol.

The air filter looks bad ass to be fair. I went to see a modified one in brum not too long ago. Just seemed a bit too modified and the map was really too aggressive - it seemed to be thrashed on a daily basis too

you have to be careful with the maps, i have heard nothing but good things about fabooka's maps, you'll find him on here and he does a dual map, 1 setting for being a tit and second for normal driving but still much better than the standard!

TBH the intercooler is pretty essential if you want decent power gain, but it totally depend on what you want to achive out it! how much power are you looking for?

  • Author

Well my golf mk4 I mapped to 140 from 115. So I could probably rock 170/180 for a while on stock stuff

Looking for decent mpg more than anything, with the potential to drive like a tit when necessary :)

Rtech would adjust the map at a later date at a reduced fee if I were to change anything like that performance wise.

should be fine running SMIC for now then!

with:

de-cat

induction

EGR del.

you could probably get 170 no bother, and will notice a big difference! but if funding is short just now, why not leave the de-cat etc. as the standard system is more than capable!

I haven't meantioned the PD160 intake yet, as i assumed someone was going to pipe up about it! do some research and draw your own conculsion before spending the money on it! lol that's all i gotta say about that!

But handling is a good one to upgrade and suspension is top of the list.

look in the sponsors on the main page and ask the chap at DPM performace what your options are suspension wise. he know his stuff and will sort you out with pretty much everything you need for now.

Should get 170bhp from stock with a map fairly easy.. Unless your swapping out the turbo for something bigger and/or hybrid I wouldn't bother with a FMIT I don't think It's worth the investment unless your going for big power..

Styling wise, Chris covered it pretty well.. +1 on spacers too, very subtle change but makes It look much better...

Mines mapped by rtech and made 180bhp 297lbft and it's completely standard apart from the map

I'm sure ppl will disagree with me here but after reading loads on this forum and talking to the guys at rtech induction kits/filters will make no differance to power at most they will keep intake temps down and same for exhaust wouldn't make much if any differance on just a stage 1 map as the turbo is the restricting factor in more power

Seats wise mk4 golf/mk1 octy are a simple swap using the guilds on the forum but if tyour standard seats are in good nick it would be worth sourcing a donor set and selling the standard ones (that's what I did)

  • Author

:) sounds awesome!

Its ready for viewing/test drive tonight. Anything to look out for?

Whats the going price for 85k and generally good nick?

Ah so get some standard seats for the golf and swap the leather recaros into the fabia? Is it easy enough to get the heated seats going too?

It's hard to say what too look out for! you want plenty of pull through the gears and service history, make sure the cambelt and water pump have been done recently. (DO THEM BOTH TOGETHER!) lol

Check the oil cap, make sure it isn't clean, (coolant in oil/vice versa)

Can sometimes be worth chucking on VAG com, just to make sure!

there are plenty of spare buttons on the dash, and the whole centre console comes out like butter, so can't see it being difficult to retro fit, as long as you have some knowledge or help!

Price wise, i wouldn't want to hazard a guess, what year is it?

  • Author

2005/6 if I remember correctly.

It would be under warranty so I can always scan it with VCDS once I have it (would be a bit cheeky to plug in on the test drive? lol)

So check for mayonaise under the oil cap

Check for oil in the coolant

Give it a good go up the road, some tight cornering - I'll also ask for cambelt/waterpump history - might be able to get it thrown in the price

Sounds like a plan bud, watch it on the tight corners, remember "break it you bought it" lol

personally i would expect to pay between 3-4K privatly

Dealer will probably be more tho, what are they asking if you dont mind me asking?

  • Author

I don't know yet but he told me they dont usually stock them it was just bought off an older couple after their son went abroad leaving it to them and they wanted rid.

He's not a main dealer, just a small petrol station who specialise in servicing and selling fabias. If he hasn't replaced the smashed wing mirror and rear bumper (with a crack) how much you reckon to have them repaired/replaced - could always know him down for it

try not to pay above 3 and a half but defo try and haggle him down, i've seen them going pretty cheap these days. with the damage try and get him down to 2.5-3K

But a lot of people say, a Cars worth what someones willing to pay for it!

He probably knows it will sell fast, so bear that in mind!

  • Author

He also knows that it isn't intended for his market (older people looking for brand new/new 1.2/1.4 automatics which is what he mainly stocks)

This fabia was sat round the back for a few months as he hadnt gotten round to tidying it and its the only one he has in. So could play either way. If I can get it for under 3k it would be a bargain I think. That would leave me budget to get it looking nice and a bit meaner.

Rtech recommended before I remap a good decat exhaust and a good panel filter to help it out but that S2000 filter looks badass - is it just sucking in hot air (and potentially water if it gets damp?)

there is 2 side to the panel filter, have heard of them getting sucked through and being shredded by throwing in more power,

Personally, i would sit the s2000 in the air box, just cut a slot for the hose to go through and leave the filter in it. i wouldn't bother with the decat, like i said, the standard exaust it enough for the power, but if you are looking for the noise then go for it. but that's personally!

do a search on induction kits in the Fabia 1 forum, you'll find all this in there and you'll get some really good ideas!

Have heard a few people say that the panels get shredded and the foam ones are crap, but people rave about these s2000, and for that price you can't go wrong! lol

Have also sean people attach the PD130/160  hose onto their filter to ensure they get some decent air in it.
